I thought this was going to be a snore as the premise didn't really interest me at all. The movie, particularly the last scene, turned out to be quite good. 2007 was a great year for film imo.

I think How to Train Your Dragon has it's place here because it comes across as another CGI kids film. Yet it is so much more and is one of my fave films ever. I think larger budget and advertised films can belong here, just as long as they where so much better than the advertising made them out to be. The point I'm getting at is films that are hidden from the audience that will enjoy them. The film could be hidden because it was relatively low budget, and had little advertising. Or because it's own advertising/promotion/actors/synopsis shrouded what the film truly was. I think a lot of people are mistaking what I mean by hidden to mean hidden from main stream. I think nearly every film posted is suited to the list, just a few that I don't think belong. I'm now going to place Date Night on this list. It's a chick flick and stars Steve Carrell who I dislike, but it had me laughing out loud. There was more flick and less chick than I thought, and I think any comedy fan will enjoy it. I think this is a good film for the list because the actors and synopsis and advertising make it comes across as another lame cheesy chick flick, yet it was fantastic. So by my own definition, a large part of the audience that would enjoy this film wont want to see it. But of course it's up to your own interpretation of what you consider hidden or surprising. I'll update the OP to help the newer members.

The dialogue was really lame, and overall it was really boring as far as dystopian movies go.. The only scene in that movie that I really liked was when he raped all those soldiers in the hallway near the end.

Acting is great (torrent this movie, its canadian TV movie, though its rated 8 + on imdb, and is really worth the watch, trust me)

The only movie in mind there might be just as mad is another Nicolas Cage movie "The wicker man" and everyones information that is just so bad, if your high school teacher ever had a laughed in her life it was because of movie, just made to make women think they actual can handle a life on their own - So unreal. ban? Seriously like wtf is your problem. Stupid film elitist. There was nothing wrong posting this film. I enjoyed this film, and many others will too.

Now I'm trying to come up with a movie to contribute, which is perhaps obscure, but your definition makes it quite hard. (I think a lot of movies posted in the thread aren't following that definition)

I almost forgot about this one. Korean movies from kim ki duk may be quite popular somehow, and maybe this one should be popular among koreans? For me, is 'hidden gem' I loved it. The OST, in addition, is gorgeus.
