Nevertheless, back then they were sheer awesome. Beginning with season 3, though (and ending somewhere around season 11), SP had just the perfect mix of plot, comedy and real life satire. The recent seasons usually fail at one or more of these points. I'm not really that into South Park, but I have to agree with the other guy. It's the same with a lot of shows of its type as well. They start out purely trying to make a name for themselves and garner fans. Being offensive, gross, etc, with no real purpose other than to be offensive, gross, etc. Once they develop a following, they can actually start to develop quality episodes without having to fill them with shock humor.
Having seen some early season episodes, they are just pointless and you could only possibly appreciate them for nostalgic reasons, or if you just are really that into offensive shock humor. Where as when I watched one of their recent episodes, the one about facebook, I actually thought it was really good.
I'm not an expert at all on the subject since I barely watch it, but that's what I've observed.

I loved the early seasons when they first aired, but looking back a lot of them don't seem great to me now. Back then it was shocking to see cartoon kids cursing and saying stuff for shock value, and now... some of it is just not that funny.
But I still absolutely love what they did with the Cartman's mom mystery... people had been waiting months and caring SO much about finding out who the mother of this cartoon character is... and the show just says "screw you all, here's some fart jokes, come back in 3 weeks". Awesome.
And Chinpokomon was one of the early season shows that were great. There were a couple of great ones, but I agree with Befree that the rest I would only get nostalgia value from seeing now.
I think the recent seasons are the best, I've been laughing harder and more often than at any other show. The Inception parody, the Facebook one, the Somalian pirate one are just pure awesome.
I'll admit the show is a little hit and miss (the pro wrestling episode was pretty bad), but the good ones are just hilarious.

The new episode (Coon vs Coon and Friends) was pretty average, nothing that made me lol IRL but not bad. The whole Cthulu thing was resolved a little bit too quick in my opinion. Mint berry crunch is awesome.

Coon vs. Coon and Friends was probably the worst episode of this whole substandard season. This whole Cthulu thing, cute kitten references and the ridiculous (as in stupid, not hilarious) ending ... woah. They really set the bar low for season 15.

Chinpokomon was awesome. I even got a Shoe of my own!

in the coon and friends series I could only actually laugh at the final episode, (hint: justin bieber)
|
laughed at the Justin Bieber bit and Kenny's mom at the end. basically because it actually ties up story from earlier episodes in South Park which is laughable.

Holy Moly... whats that between the lady's legs. it's all bushy... LOL fuckn love Butters.

O yeah big FML moment. My friends and I recorded it cause we had a fraternity meeting we had to go to ech wednesday. so we come back to watch it and at teh end when Kenny was being borna s a baby (yeah kinda weird) adn was put to bed again, the recording cut off with like 45 seconds left of the actual episode which wasnt recorded. we were so blown to find out that we wont figure out what actually is going on with kenny's immortal powers. SHABLAGOO!!!!!!

Their depiction of Bieber was amazing. His voice (and death) cracked me up.

Terrible end to the story. Its like hey what's the fastest way we can wrap this up and piss ppl off..

I thought it was a great ending, and definitely fit with what they had said previously in why Kenny dies but always comes back.
+ Show Spoiler +Earlier in the series (I don't remember what season or episode but it's been mentioned in this thread), they had shown Kenny's mom giving birth to a new son, and they (his mom and dad) said how it seemed to happen all the time. The ending for that episode worked great because it was funny, and still kept with the continuity they had set up.

Well it seemed redicuously rushed. They could have explored the Kenny thing more but they chose not to. That annoyed me, i guess others aren't.

It annoyed me as well.
They've had a number of multi-episode story arcs that went pretty well, building up actual suspense and a plot. Family Guy and Imaginationland come to mind; those may not have been the most brilliant SP episodes there are, but at least they had an ending which fit with the story that was told.
The Mintberry Crunch / Kenny ending was the return to crude SP humour and weird plot twists at the worst possible moment.

mint berry crunch fighting!!!
in my opinion it was the best episode out of the 3 comicepisodes ...
|
This latest was better than that second one, nothing seemed to happen in that.
Wasn't the best but Mintberry cruuuuunch saved the day

I really enjoyed the coon series, altough I haven't really laughed hard from Southpark since the episode with Tiger Woods (sexual healing).

Wait you mean this season is over ?? I though it was a 3 episode arc !!!
