Heavy metal is just one of sub genres of metal, quite often referred to as "classic metal" And yeah - power, heavy and numetal all WILL be bashed by true Black/Death/Thrash/Grindcore fans, so why even bothering So here are few representatives of Thrash/Black/Death metal (though Frontside not as known as others)

I like all the bands you mentioned except for Edguy pretty much. Stratovarius are amazing and I really like Moonsorrow, they're quite underrated imo. Also it kinda helps to understand finnish when listening to Moonsorrow

Simone Simons has an amazing voice, if only she could get what's his name to shut up. I really like their style and such too, I just can't stand the stupid death grunting. I assume you've heard her guest appearance on Kamelot's Black Halo album? Simone Simons + Roy Khan duet is unbelievable. Need more of that. I mostly listen to Kamelot, Freedom Call, Rhapsody, and the occasional Dragonforce right now. Definitely looking to expand my metal library a bit, Sonata Artica is already on the list. Hopefully I can get a few more good ideas from this thread.

With that said, I want to add some of my favourites: The above are also two of the greatest music videos ever made. Dunno if Danzig constitutes heavy metal.. but still, for the hell of it: I would add some Opeth, but seeing as it has already done to death in this thread, I won't..

Wiki + Show Spoiler + Neurosis is an experimental metal band, based in Oakland, California. Their unique sound draws from influences ranging from hardcore punk and doom metal to dark ambient and industrial music as well as incorporating elements of indie and folk music. The band is highly regarded as the primary pioneer of its genre,[4] sometimes referred to as post-metal. Critic Brian Russ has described them as "atmospheric hardcore".[5] Youtube + Show Spoiler + Mastodon, Electric Wizard is nice too! I don't listen too much metal besides those three bands. Very groovy! :D Quite heavy sound
