 i love this song. after this was made... Van Halen really started to suck. This is awesome.... I'd say "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" is Van Halen's best song. | ||

Genre-wise, most of their songs fall either into heavy metal or prog. Lots of doom elements, even some thrash in places. Now onto the songs, this is gonna be a bit long cause I can't decide on anything past the first one: Starless Age (Enshrined) Not very representative, but as of yet my favorite. Starts all doom and gloom, the gloom stays throughout but not the doom cause a little over 3 minutes in the rhythm speeds up with some classic riffage, ends with melodic guitar soloing. Astral Levitation Pure no frills heavy metal, sweet dual solos, it was love at first guitar note for me. There's some harmonizing during the solo section that you Maiden-heads out there will be into. Angel & Abyss Another multi-genre song, there's laid back prog/psychedelic sections mingling with heavy thrashy sections, never really gets old. Harmony of the Spheres More classic riffage, the twist in this song is the groovy as hell breakdown after the guitar solos. Wakien This one's geoblocked in most countries unfortunately so maybe you'll find it somewhere else, I couldn't help but mention it. It's instrumental only, first half is acoustic oriental style guitar which then breaks into weeping electric guitar. Who does that? There's so much more and no two of their songs are the same but there's no point making this post even longer, if you made it this far you'll no doubt look for it yourselves! | ||

DT is still on a downward slope though. Hopefully, some day they will realise they need to put back some actual work on the guitars... Such a shame from the band that wrote The Gallery... My latest order just arrived, no brutal tech death this time, guess I'm getting old too :D From top to bottom: Romanian folk metal with a touch of black, insane melodies, crazy mix of styles, epic and groovy Paradise Lost probably needs no introduction :p I really like the current mix they have going between death and doom French post-BM, with a surprising mix of vocals, between trad BM and clean female singing Epic doom, crazy guitar work and obviously amazing singer Heavy/doom, the chorus on this song is out of this world, gives me chills every time | ||

Some stuff I enjoyed lately: Unlucky Morpheus - Top of the "M" Japanese power/speed metal, it's a song about.. mahjong. This band always pulls off strange themes, see also an earlier single from this year. Hällas - Carry On These guys make, err, psychedelic retro-futuristic prog. Fairly unique vocals and their guitar tones are always on point, see also Star Rider. Tribulation - Hour of the Wolf Gothic/melodeath, if we could synthesize all of Swedish metal to create a new song it would probably sound a lot like this. The main guitar progression is oddly satisfying. Witherfall - Another Face Side project of Iced Earth's lead guitarst, pretty straightforward HM. The chorus hits the sweet spot. God Is An Astronaut - Burial Post-rock/experimental. No vocals, just atmosphere. Avatar - A Secret Door Never paid any attention to Avatar before, but I guess I have to now. Everything about this was interesting. | ||

CoB was the band that got me into the more "extreme" metal, before listening to HateCrewDeathroll I was mostly a Power Metal guy. CoB have been my favorite band for years! Looking back, I'd say it's not surprising that he died. I think it was around 2 or 3 years ago when Alexis health worsened. He was thin, pale and looked like a skeleton in a skincoat. Many believed it was because he was changing his lifestyle (less drugs, alcohol, etc.) but he looked anorexic. A real loss, one of the greatest and most proficient guitarrists of all time. | ||
