I mean sure Liquid was number 1 in it but outside of them the PR had EG OG and VP all top 4 and that clearly didn't happen. Newbee LFY and LGD were all rated much lower than they actually were as well. Focusing on just #1 is silly

TL writers are the best in the business
Generally, TL has really good writers. Ths Hearthstone ones however does have some room for improvement

LiquidBias bruh.
Plus winning TI is a safe way to remove Miracle and GH from the scene.
Wait how? Miracle and GH were playing pretty well. You don't get those sorts of wins over LFY by having 3v5...
i'm sure i'm going to get shit for making this comment but liquid throughout the entire tournament looked very one note. Their games are predicated on whether or not they get their draft and if one key player like Miracle or GH doesn't get their comfort hero, they actually lose their games horrendously.
I'm ready to eat my words here but honestly you can tell whether Liquid wins throughout this entire tournament just from draft alone. Can't say the same about other teams but well Liquid got this far for a reason.
Liquid's strength revolves their draft so its understandable.
I made a similar point to this earlier concerning the rat drafts, but I totally understand the disconnect between: > trying to win a TI > watching a TI and how they have different priorities: KKY doesn't care about how we perceive his play, as long as he gets to win. So if he's on a team with a strong reliance on drafting, he'll lean into that advantage.
Oh its not a complaint. Draft is an essential part of the game and being good at that is being good at the game. EG's strength was rooted in PPD's ability of maximize and enable his teammates. Of course the individual players have to be of a certain level but the key cog was that ability was what made then strong. Aui's Techies, Visage, and Naga gave them the edge they needed to win the title. GH might be able to do the same for Liquid. Newbee is not CDEC though so we should be in for a good one.
On a personal note, imo all strategies are valid. The only thing that has ever left a bad taste in my mouth in fountain hook at TI3 and even then it was only because of the dumb fans (and subsequently Valve) who over glorify it. Players should do whatever they want.

Just the west underestimating CN teams as usual, although to be fair they were pretty quiet in the 8 months leading up to TI

The SC2 writers could learn a thing or 2 from the dota ones

I would not call it underestimating the Chinese teams, they showed nothing outside of newbee. They showed again they know how to step it up for a big event. We must be happy they d'ont practice the rest of the year, otherwise the Western scene would be brutalised.

You should try reading some of the SC2 writers' stuff. Some of them are pretty good at what they do.

To be fair though, that's an insane achievement for winning a TI. Just by drafting better than anyone else.
I mean, I honestly think most if not every TI winner (i have to think back on this) just wins through smart drafts. IG, Alliance, Newbee, EG. I never watched Na'Vi and I don't even know if I can really count their TI victory and Wing's is pretttttttty debatable.
Alliance was very far ahead of the meta during the whole 6 months, it was not only the drafts, it was also the use of jungle and buybacks, on top of that their coordination, if subpar by today's standards, was unrivalled at the time.
Sure but look at the heroes they dominated the meta with. Lone Druid, NP, Wisp+CK and Kotl. These are heroes that you buyback and insta come back through globals to turn a teamfight. No other team did it but, still a whole draft thing. Especially Wisp at the time and Bulldog.
Other teams did it, just not as well.
Being ahead in the meta usually comes in the form of having a drafting edge.
