In real sports, there is usually a half time show or some other small performances during time outs. The "crowd" involved activities are all for the benefit of the people in live attendance, not for the tv viewership at home. I really couldn't give 2 shits about the people actually at the event. Awkward interactions with the crowd add zero value to the online stream.

Hot take. Maybe they should just do away with those? it's not like as if World Cup or Superbowl or NBA finals do a lot ( if any) crowd activities. Crowd are just there for the reactions shots and noise/atmosphere. Maybe some half time activities.

I don't think the prizepool / ticket sales will be affected too. It's always sold out anyway.

Real sports tournaments sustain themselves on the game itself. Not enough people care enough about Dota at a deep enough level for that (see all the whiners about Chinese teams around the net), and TI has always been marketed as a "community made" tournie.

Lolol this guy thinks real sports fanbases don't care about flags...

Real sports fanbases are 100x bigger than the Dota community put together so you get everything at once. That's the point, the match itself sustains all the viewership, all the discussion, all the entertainment (I guess the Superbowl is an exception but lol at that thing)

It can't be 3 China team in the upper and lower bracket final. This is in Seattle and imagine the venue is only 40% occupied, with 5 stars red flag hanging around.

Even France can take down Brazil 1998 in state de france, why not Liquid win the aegis for odd year...

Oh god this guy is at this again.

If LGD/iG managed to take down Liquid so what? Do you think valve needs to change the result of the match?

The France 1998 is only one case. But I seems to remember that France was defeated in the same state of france by Portugal, just last year. Or Germany won last world cup in Brazil, trashing Brazil 7-2 in the process.

Just enjoy the game, I imagine you also wont present at seattle, so the attendance had nothing to do with you.

Liquids momentum seems to be pushing them forward. At this rate i predict they will overcome all odds to reach grand finals before flopping 3-1 to either newbee/lfy

Already thrilled for another night of great dota. Expecting 3 lgd/fy victories tonight. Liquid did seem sloppy at times and decision making/shot calling seemed much better on the other teams. Still Liquid has all the potential and why shouldn't we see one of the other 3 teams have an off-day.

Damn watched the VOD of game 3 of VP/Liquid, what a great oldschool dota game. Void vs AM, and then shaker vs magnus, lich vs AA. Big plays from both sides, crazy hard teamfight execution. Mindcontrol so clutch on his NP

Then we wait Liquid take down iG/LGD first.
Prevention is always better than treatment.

Come on, we are comparing 2 teams that are comparable. When their ability is very close, then outside influence will change the outcome. But if you take 2 team that their ability is far apart, whatever external impact of course doesnt change the result much.

Not sure how much attention you pay to the business end of sports leagues, but the issue of "unpopular" teams in playoffs and finals is a constantly occurring one. For example, the NHL basically cries whenever the last Canadian team is out.
