All these crowd segments probably also attributed to more and more attention seeking behaviour of the crowd. Hot take. Maybe they should just do away with those? it's not like as if World Cup or Superbowl or NBA finals do a lot ( if any) crowd activities. Crowd are just there for the reactions shots and noise/atmosphere. Maybe some half time activities. I don't think the prizepool / ticket sales will be affected too. It's always sold out anyway.

Real sports tournaments sustain themselves on the game itself. Not enough people care enough about Dota at a deep enough level for that (see all the whiners about Chinese teams around the net), and TI has always been marketed as a "community made" tournie.

I agree that more than the game is needed. Players and personalities are fine and definitely deserve great emphasis The involvement of John Patrick Lowrie was a great addition for example. In fact i think even real sports panders to a lot of these as well. The game is never enough by itself. What i mean is getting rid of the crowd segment only which i think are not enjoyable and obnoxious and also doesn't exist in other games/sports. What percentage of the interest generated are due to those crowd segments. Say we remove crowd segments and we only use crowd mic/ crowd camera, will the prize pool drop or will the tickets suddenly not sold out anymore. Somehow i doubt it..
