Like ATP rank in tennis, based on what tournaments they participated and won.
If none, there should be one.
It'll solve few things. Who gets an invite, setting up prize pool and crowd, settle an argument (well, there still will be a discussion who's better but it won't be entirely game of opinion),etc.

u can't have that kind of system in dota..the community will ignore it anyway and give their own ranks to teams.some websites do ranking system tho..i heard there is something called elo ranking too
