![]() Early to mid : Wand --> Powerthreads --> Eye of skadi (Skadi gives 4 usefull stats that are copied on the illusion and the passive is very usefull passive) Mid to late : Manta --> Etheral blade --> Butterfly (manta gives more illusions that can make more illusions , etheral blade has best stats and a nice active, then butterfly for evasion which is usefull for illusions and more stats!)Late : Heat of terrasque (too much money = more health en regen to stay longer in battle) Could it work, thx? ![]()

Deso is rarely compared since its 1.5K cheaper that the other options and scales varyingly depending on your target's armor, not just your damage. Mjollnir is kinda uncommon these days on carries since if you need IAS the common items are Butterfly on agi carries and AC on other carries. However, it shouldn't be *too* hard to make your own spreadsheet. DPS = (BAT divided by (100 + IAS)/100)*(Damage per hit + (crit chance * crit damage) + (proc damage * proc chance)) all reduced by enemy armor, damage block and magic resist in the case of mjollnir.

To rush it as your first item, especially as a PL guarantees that you will be useless to your team for the first 20-25 minutes of the game. The orb, while useful, does not transfer to illusions. In reality, a diffusal blade accomplishes what you're trying to do a lot better. It offers no survivability, but in terms of pure damage output, a diffusal is far superior, as the mana burn applies to all your illusions as well. The purge works just as well, if not better than skadi slow as you can use it from range, and you also have your lance to slow when it wears off. By that time you and your illusions should have already purged your target from existence (har har). When paired with another early game item like drums, you have added a decent amount of survivability and early fight capability for 1,500 gold less than the skadi, allowing you to both fight earlier and make more of a difference. Manta is fine, more illusions is lovely. Etheral blade however makes little sense. PL has a crap ton of agility yes, and popping the etheral blade would do a ton of damage. But it also has the effect of making your target unattackable by your illusions. This is where your damage output comes from. In the 3 seconds that your target is etheral, you could have done many times the damage of the nuke simply by whacking him with you and your illusions. Skip this. Butterfly is good on just about any agility carry, so this is fine. Heart is a great item. It significantly increases the difficulty of killing your illusions, which lets them do damage longer. Your illusions are your primary source of damage, so increasing their survivability is very important. It's often worth picking this up as your second major item, ie after your diffusal. Of course if you're looking to just rice for 40 minutes, then you might be better off going something like yasha -> diffusal or even a straight radiance rush.

I know there was an article comparing those four items and it had a tiny tl;dr saying when to get each one of them. I don't remember the specifics though. Prio number one was checking if they had any evasion, if they had you'd get MKB, then you'd check the armor, if most of the opponents had under X armor you'd get Deso, if none of these cases were true, you'd get Crit. The conditions for Mjollnir I do not remember, however, but I'm sure there's math backing each of these four items up.

Your etheral blade argument sounds ok, i'll not do that anymore. The Skadi wasnt first item, it is first expensive combination of items, which means u will have stats until the passive comes online. I got the skadi (5750 gold) idea of a spectre guide. The extra health gives me the option not to focus on the expensive HoT lategame but more on stats after skadi. The idea behind the Skadi instead of diffusal+vangaurd of the spectre guidewriter was see quote : Skadi comes online at ~7K gold and thus the same time as phase/ Vanguard/ Diffusal Blade. You suddenly have a very strong (BKB penetrating!) anti-carry and chasing presence along with some very nice stats -- all of which are appreciated. The slow provides the incentive needed for them to actually rightclick or disable you. Skadi's +25 agility actually gives the same DPS as diffusal, while also adding tons of mana and durability far ahead of vanguard. It's also a tier-4 item so you're not giving yourself a best by date with vanguard (bad item with irrelevant damage block by 25 minutes, prevents use of RoH/vitality booster in a T4 item) and diffusal (blocked by BKB, blocks non-vlads lifesteal, not good once enemies have 1000+ mana). I liked his arguments because more health, bkb, survivalibility diffusalskill during game, and its a t4 item which works well for noob rightclickers i hoped Dunno if this changes your view on the matter Skadi for Phantom Lancer?

Skadi really doesn't do much, even when its done. Maybe as a third item its okay, but I'd usually recommend against it.

Your illusions do full mana-burn damage btw. Just stick with drums and/or yasha into diffusal into manta into heart into butterfly.

Mjollnir is bought as a farming item on carries for whom Radiance and Battle Fury are not suitable. The reason it's uncommon is that in general major farming items like these aren't suitable for the current pace of the game outside of a few heroes (e.g. Anti-Mage). It's not so much a problem with the items being too weak, just that the role they fill is not commonly desired at the moment.

The nice thing about PL is that his early game fighting isn't that bad compared to other agi hard carries - he is particularly decent around level 7, so items like drums are really effective, as they are generally just a good item for him, and that it helps him fight a lot early game. This will continue into more fights when he grabs diffusal. Skadi really doesn't do much, even when its done. Maybe as a third item its okay, but I'd usually recommend against it. What are the other agi hard carries? AM, void, gyro, spectre, LD, riki, PA, meepo, morph? I'd pick gyro, spectre, PA, riki and LD over PL for a lvl 7 fight. Then there are the other agi carries who are clearly designed to hit earlier like jugg, luna, TA, SF, razor, ursa, troll, weaver etc So in fact yeah PL is better at level 7 than sniper morph, void, AM but he's still shitty. And he's a lot easier to gang than those one, there is a price to pay for having such a strong 6 slotted heroe.

In the majority of cases, nojok is correct--if one of those heroes chose to man-fight PL on similar farm at level 7, PL would most likely lose. Does thos change the Skadi/diffusal argument?

PL doesn't translate that into farming power that well because without more damage-focused items, his innate farming power is not that fast. He doesn't have an AoE nuke to flash-farm with, so he needs auto-attack damage (or Radiance, but thats pretty much untenable nowadays) to be able to farm fast.
