The buyback counter being in the game is incredibly useful and basically means you want to spend as much money as will leave you with enough gold to buyback which you can calculate by looking at your buyback cost and reliable gold. Subtract the reliable gold from the buyback cost and the money you need to buyback is now at most the remainder +750 gold in unreliable gold.
Sounds a little convoluted but basically if you have 4k unreliable gold you can safely spend some.

It's more than stunning with birds. They also represent a fair chunk of burst damage when they're at full charges and allowed to hit a target, so good visage play involves using those birds and their damage as the situation allows for... often this means forcing a support to stay way out of the fight because a few seconds of birds plus a soul assumption equals a dead guy (and bird range is infinite, and Soul Assumption's damn near it). Birds are also great for being magic immune stunbuddies, preferably after they've spent their damage, but some black hole situations don't offer you that luxury.
Then there's also keeping an eye on Soul Assumption and firing it off on appropriate targets when it hits 5 charges or is otherwise appropriate. It has quite the short cooldown, but you can't just zeus with it. And there's Graveskeeper's cloak offering you free beefcake status on a support without having to itemize for it. And there's Grave Chill, which is a handy MS/IAS slow.
In a way, he's kind of like Rubick. His first three spells lend themselves to a very stable base to work from, but his ultimate ability offers endless possibilites and basically defines the hero's success by how well the ultimate is used.
As for the map hack thing someone else mentioned... what? Birds have like 300 vision at most. I dunno where you'd be sending them blind into the unknown to "scout" except for in rosh. They're not exceptionally fast, and there's practically no situation where you'd sneak up on someone with birds, because they'l almost always see the birds before the birds see them... hell, it even says they're blind in the skill description.

My entire post was exaggerated. The vision that the birds is certainly not maphack, but they also aren't blind like the skill description suggests. If you keep them over trees then they won't be able to be spotted without flying vision.

Lina mid- viable? It's so tempting as the hero has good potential to be a semi-carry, not that most teams would want you to be one. They see Lina and think "ahhhh, a ward bitch! I'll go ahead and farm my crystal maiden right now." Anyways, I want to try it out just for shits and giggles. If anyone could suggest a good item build for semi-carry Lina (assume high-bracket play) that would be great.
|
Dendi played Lina mid in the Alienware Cup, but that was one of the more trollish games with xboct support and kuro carry. He ended up going two points in passive to win his lane, and he managed to pick up a shadow blade in the final few minutes of the game as his team was losing.
More seriously/viably (if Lina mid is serious), the two nukes are immensely useful for flash farming in the midgame, and shouldn't be neglected for stats or passive. I think the most useful thing to do would be to rush Euls and go hunting for kills with your combo and highly levelled nukes and hope to snowball from there.

You can just go Lina mid for fast levels and a quick Blink Dagger or something to make your ganking potiential to skyrocket. You don't have to build semi-carry.

Thanks for answering guys! Dyou think phase is better or do I still need arcanes?

In order to carry you need damage and IAS which can be obtained either phase or treads. Arcane or phase better for laning and ganking, treads are better for solely right clicks. Mid Lina semi-carry build is strong if you can execute properly.

Treads blink core then get items similar to that you'd get on QoP depending on situation. Your passive gives you good attack speed for a few seconds so you don't need to stack much.
Shame you can't get harkon's blade; I loved playing carry pyromancer in HoN.

Treads aren't that important over phase since you already have flaming soul or whatever it's called for all the attack speed you need. That said treads are nice for tread switching with bottle. Personal preference really.

yea, I wonder why it does not get ported? basically it is oblivion + mystic with an activated desolator right?

Carry Lina should still max both nukes first and get either Arcane Boots or Travels.
The early right-click stats don't outweigh the superior farming power and burst damage.
After early game stuff, Lothar's is strong (a Lina with a solo lane level advantage has strong solo-killing ability and Lothar's is the best item for leveraging this). Afterwards, item choices vary a lot. BKB, Crit, AC, Lifesteal are natural follow-ups.

A) thats not at all what its like. Yes I suppose taht is the item makeup but its nothing like an "activated desolator" B) nothing from HoN has ever been ported to dota thankfully C) Its probably not possible to write the item in the WC3 engine since it converts your attacks to magical damage.

Does evasion work against Death Prophets ultimate? DotA2wiki only says that armor works, but damage block (stout shield) does not.

can you tp to furion trees/chen creeps etc with boots of travel?

I haven't actually played HoN, so I might be mistaken how the item works but: Changing an attack from melee to ranged is already done in the game, so that part isn't a problem. Converting to magical shouldn't be tricky either, just make your attacks do 0 damage, and add an orb effect which does the equivalent damage in magical dmg and the -5 armor (in dota 2 I think it would be better with -5% magical resistance, but it depends on whether its suppose to stack or not).
|
Well it doesn't grant you ranged attacks.
And It wouldn't interact properly with ethereal.
And dota doesn't have "magic armor" just magic resistance, so you'd probably have to have it as a 33% magic amp (since amp is applied before armor or something I'm not too present on this mechanic since its so irrelevant in dota).
And I'm not sure how well you could code an item to toggle on which then adds a mana-cost to your attacks but interacts correctly with magic immunity to not cost the mana or turn your damage to magic...
I'm going with no that wouldn't work. Admittedly its probably closer than I originally thought.

You mean like all of the orb spells in the game..?

Yeah, keyword SPELLS. Not items.
I mean, maybe I'm wrong I never messed around with WC3 map editor or coding, but it isn't something thats been done before so I'm guessing it might not be so simple.

That's really easily coded around is what I'm getting at.
