Since ET came up earlier...

How do you actually lane as this guy? He loves levels and seems to do ok in the offlane with spirit, but he's so mana starved, and once I'm out I get bullied like crazy.

Assuming I'm solo offlane against a duo, how should he be played? Do you need to start with a million clarities or what? When should I use spirit in the lane at early levels? That kind of thing.

I love him if I can get past that, but I'm always behind.

this is more of a preference, but I'd like some opinions. Played a Crystal Maiden with teammates Axe, Centaur, BH and Storm. I generally like buying Blink on CM (given enough farm ofc), but Axe, Cent already had blink and we had Storm as well. So as far as initiators go, 3 out of 5 is more than enough, right? and that's not even countiing BH.

Yet, I still think that I should've bought Blink. Already had a Ghost Scepter, so I was good as far as survivability goes. Mek is bad after 30 minutes, we already had pipe..

tl;dr - is it worth it to get a Blink dagger if 3 teammates are already initiators?

force staff or a disalber like euls or hex if u get money will be better

Well it's a good question.
I once solo offlane ET vs Io/ChaosKnight
I start with classic stuff and 3 claritys. The farm was not so bad. But i can't afford manaboots.
So i go for a Soul Ring. This little item let me have enough mana to spamm spirit and do well in the game.

I suppose it varies but one thing I noticed was that many ET's attempt to rush soul ring when faced against a trilane. Assuming they get about 1.5 last hits per spirit, they seem to be able to get a soul ring before they run out of mana. After that they play the lane a lot like a clockwerk might, hugging the tower and spamming rocket/astral.

You probably don't need to hug the tower quite that much against a dual lane but I suppose you can astral for a last hit and then use the bonus damage and move speed to try and dash forward for one or two additional last hits.

elder titan is a nice offlaner period. he doesnt need an escape mechanism, his 2nd skill allows him to nuke and get gold from afar, and you can scout with it as well. once you realise the supports arent anywhere near enough to gank you, you start taking xp. ez lane

Tongfu ran an offlane Titan vs LGD in game 2 of their bo3 in the Sinacup winner bracket. He got slow levels, but LGD wasn't pulling much or harassing mid so it was a trade I'm sure Tongfu was satisfied with. At anyrate he got his ult in time for the first major teamfight (or possibly that Tongfu didn't engage a first major teamfight until he got his ult, I didn't watch that closely to distinguish) and it seemed to work out for them overall.

Hello,
I'm about to buy WC 3 and plan to play some DotA 1. Are there still people playing it or everyne jumped to Dota 2? Also on a similar note, is there a divide in the community (much like BW vs SC2 to some extent) or is it more fluid with people just chilling and playing whatever version?

Hope it's not to long for this thread. Thx!

Isn't Dota2 just better version of Dota? I played some wc3 dota when my old computer couldn't handle dota2 that well and conclusion after couple games was that dota has some really annoying things that are better in dota2 like people leaving game always before the end because there's no punishment.

Don't bother with dota 1. Go straight to dota 2 and don't look back. There is no divide between the two; the games are virtually identical apart from an upgraded engine and graphics. The only people still playing dota 1 at this point are those whose computers are too weak for Dota 2.

There are still people playing Dota 1, many of them do it though certain leagues or clients, but you should still be able to find games on regular b.net. You'll also get to play heroes that haven't been released in Dota 2 yet.

Dota2 is just a basically graphically updated version of Dota, missing a few heros, but with a few features added

Yepp, even a lot of the tiny quirks made by the wc3 engine are coded into dota 2 to make it as similar as possible. There are a couple of noticeable differences though, ignoring the obvious graphics update. It seems like heroes move and turn just a tiny bit faster, theres less lag (making lasthitting a ton easier) due to servers being located at valve and not on your computer, and generally cleaner graphics making certain spells easier to hit land (Am I the only one who thinks pudge hook is 100 times easier to hit now than in dota 1?).

And then of course theres the infinitely times better UI just making the whole experience so much more enjoyable.

then again there are the angles which make some spells hard to use (Fissure, Shackle)

but for the most part, yeah. Dota 2 is just a much better version of Dota 1.

Soul Ring on ET is pretty much like having a Soul Ring on Skeleton King. Pretty useless outside of laning phase, and not worth the investment in terms of the offlane gold your likely to get.

Some tricks to get exp/gold on ET against a duo lane are:

- Creep pull like Syllabear/Bounty Hunter (risky since you have to use your hero, you really have to evaluate whether the opposing laners can kill you at level 1)
- Sick haste rune/illusion/invis rune
- Use the spirit to mess up the support's pulls/creep equilibrium
- Block your creeps so that the range creep dies first (unlikely to succeed against more competent carries)
- If you're on Radiant side you can cut a tree and pull the large dire camp

It's also important to note that your Spirit gives you bonus damage and movement speed, so you can bully weak laning supports (usually melee/low range/low movement speed) as long as you make sure it passes through all the creeps/heroes in lane. Once you get boots you can boots timing the support and whack him out of lane (since the expectation is with passive gold you should get your boots before them).

It's really the fear of getting hit by echo stomp that's far more relevant. Imagine a situation where your team is trying to push a tower and the opposition is trying to defend it. All you have to do is toss a spirit and make them follow heroes around, which makes it far harder for them to engage due to it's exceptional range. If they initiate on your team, your spirit threatens to stomp and cut off their backlines (isolating the initiator), and if they don't engage then you grab a relatively easy/free tower.

In terms of defending towers, you place your spirit and you can also just stomp the enemy creeps. This will effectively slow pushes down for 5 seconds at level 4. The strength of echo stomp comes from it's zoning utility. It's arguably easy to dodge compared other skills, but to say something like no pro will be hit by his stomp shows a poor understanding of ET's strengths and capabilities.

Hmmm, none of your bulletpoints have anything to do with titan/tauren chieftain. You could be offlaning a naked crystal maiden and have the same effect,

edit: except nuking the pull,

Hey to be fair, a soul ring on SK often allows you to have mana for your ult at any point. Well timed it can even get you an ult off against a diffusal wielding illusion hero.

I´m pretty sure he meant no one will be hit by the stomp when trying to kill the offlaning ET. You have to play insanely passive against a tri lane with disables because once they catch you there is no escape. I´m not saying he is a bad offlaner in pubs but I don´t think that he will be a regular in pro off lanes but i could be wrong.

It´s just pretty hard to get something out of the lane and there is not much of a comeback potential once you are behind.

However if you get past the lanning phase with decent levels and maybe manaboots or something he is quite good in the midgame.
