well usually teams do that by playing like the best team in the world for longer than half of one tournament so we'll see

This is pretty far removed from what Alliance looked like post G1 or DK post starladder. Both those teams won arguably more stacked LAN without dropping a single game while showcasing an entirely new brand of dota

While they look like the strongest team in the world at the moment, best ever is something EG is not even close to be in contention for yet

I don't really care about relative performance, all I know is that in absolute terms, this EG team is better than any other Western team ever was.

Eh. Won't tag EG as best ever, since that was probably iG back in TI2/Post TI2 era. We'll see though, I certainly see EG as a fixture for championship contention given their room for growth.

Eg kinda pioneered the carry mid though, when teams then preferred more interactive mids. They probably also made enigma such a hot pick too.

EG has been the strongest western team for a long while now. I feel like their play is really flexible so the incoming 6.82 nerfs won't affect them too much. RIP [A]

How do you define "absolute terms"?
Most won LANs? Most won TIs?
While EG is the best western team atm (well deserved btw) it is hardly justified to say best western team ever.

By absolute terms he probably means: best overall, not relative to the rest of the scene at that moment, just best team.
As you said EG is the best western team atm and considering the fact that this game is so new and every one keeps on improving, "best atm" most likely equals: "best ever". It's not like Alliance got worse after TI3, other teams formed and just got better, including EG.

Alliance got worst. Not because teams got better or figured them out (admittingly its still a factor), but mainly cuz they decided to follow trends instead of playing a style that suits them.

Every Chinese team has gotten significantly worse, the only teams that are better than they are at TI4 are EG and C9

Their playstyle and heroes were nerfed, as well as the meta that everyone else plays. That's going to have an effect of your performance.

You can be the best 4 protect 1 team in the world, but if the dominant meta at the time is something that counters that, you can't just play the outdated playstyle and force it. You have to adapt.

This was the best one:

Question: PPD, what do you think the rest of the NA scene needs to do to elevate itself to the same level as EU/China?

PPD: make teams

Confirmed that being a pubstar is not that impressive and to get better you need to learn to play well with other players.

When you stop and look at the last year, EG's pioneered a lot of the meta that's happened. Mid-lane farmers, 4th position farmers, non-farming safelaners, offlane Void (technically not the first, but the first to make it look good), and just at WEC having carries and supports that swap farm priority mid game.
Average means I'm better than half of you.

I think people can take that to heart. Assuming the Americas has its own Qualifiers for next TI, I think it'd be relatively easy to make a TI "capable" team compared to other regions. I honestly see it as the land of opportunity.

Also:

b4 I left for dignitas. After receiving the boot because "I was not good enough"

There were certainly some times before Ti where they looked like the best team in the world. They should have done better at TI honestly.

WEC was the equivalent of a pre-season warm up LAN.

Win it while teams are just getting back into training.
EG definitely best ever.
