No. Regardless of your political views both sides came out feeling like they won (or at least did ok) while simultaneously having “something new” to whine about. Idc that much about national level stuff but kind of doubt there will be any change in the current undeniably shitty environment. However, as far as state level I care a lot actually.

The Alaska gubernatorial race was such a shitshow. The incumbent who I REALLY liked withdrew from the race and had two absolutely godawful options left. I’ve been super unhappy for the last month about this race. Results of tonight were irrelevant to me personally to some extent. Depressing as fuck tbh. I’m drinking and playing new tomb raider.

(I’m quite involved in state fisheries politics and governor effects that tremendously. I met with the apparent winner twice this summer, refused to support and actively asked people to not vote for him and will now have to basically beg him for scraps for 4 years. Fuck.)

There’s my token political post for the night. Sad days.

I don't eat much moose, because I don't hunt moose myself. I eat almost exclusively caribou, deer, and seafood that I procure myself. My grocery bill is made up of eggs/coffee/cream for coffee/produce/alchohol Although I am budgeting my alchohol consumption I was drinking/spending way too much last couple years. Anyways, the bribe would be shrimp. It's always shrimp. Everyone loves shrimp.

So do you hunt caribou and deers? What do you do with all the meat? You cut it and store it by yourself or take the animal to the butcher?

How hard/easy is it to hunt these animals? Also, how does the meat taste, is it lean, i suppose it tastes game-y but would imagine caribou to have some fat in it

I dunno, I've hunted my whole life. Its not too hard for me to shoot a caribou and two deer every year which is enough red meat for a single guy to eat for a year. (~200 lbs finished weight I guess? I do maybe another 100lbs finished weight of fish/shrimp) I do cut it and package and freeze myself. I have friends who take to shops but its kind of expensive to be honest. My best friend had a 1700$ bill for taking his moose meat to a local butcher. lol. I could hunt moose also and my limit on deer is actually 5, but 1) I don't need that much meat and I am mostly a meat/experience the outdoors hunters 2) It takes time and money to go hunting. As far as how hard? Well, this year my dad and I hunted for 8 days to each kill a caribou, but it was harder than usual they were very dispersed and far off the road/trails. We put in over 200miles in the backcountry on four-wheelers. Usually its more like 3 days. We were fortunate to have freedom of schedule to stay out so long. You can spend a lot of money on hunting stuff, though. Its a kind of expensive hobby to get into but the trip expenses arent bad at all. Once you have all the stuff. Mainly I have a small atv (4 wheeler) which if I was to go buy one right now I'd spend maybe 9k$ on but in fact I bought mine 17 years ago for 4K$ (Which I saved very fucking hard for over 2 years @ 14) and maybe 5k$ in optics/electronics/rifle etc for caribou hunting that I've gradually spent over the years I started out with cheaper stuff. Obviously guided hunting and trophy hunting can be VERY VERY expensive. It is big business here. A lot of residents self hunt though. Its not exactly a financial reason to hunt for yourself, its more of a lifestyle choice. People tend to think you hate animals or something, but I love and appreciate wildlife more than almost anyone I know. I've trapped thousands of muskrats for example but I think they are cool critters and it makes me super happy to see/watch them out of season.

Meat is very lean and good for you compared to basically any storebought meat. It is actually far healthier and more environmentally friendly than farmed/ranched meat. Populations are managed pretty carefully and the rules are quite complicated actually. I don't like the word 'gamey' because everything tastes different but its not that strong. But yes caribou tastes different than moose or deer or beef. It tastes like caribou. xd. Some people don't like it, but I actually like it a lot. If you live somewhere where you can buy higher end 'reindeer' (caribou are basically north american version of reindeer) or 'elk' meat thats free range it is basically like that. But that shits expensive. Wild game, even when fat and healthy are very different than cows that live in feed lot their whole life, the fat is all under the skin, outside the muscles or layered in the intestinal cavity. THere is virtually no fat "marbled" in the muscle because these critters actually use their muscles. they travel 5k+ miles a year. Basically moving constantly.

When I was gone this fall caribou hunting I told my WoW guild that I was larping my wow character for a week and a half.

As to Diablo: As someone who actually LOVES D3 (and will play the next season very seriously and try for top 10 on leaderboards again) I don't give two flying shits if Blizzard sells out and makes (has someone make) a Diablo mobile game. I won't play it, but I don't care that it exists. Seriously though, how fucking out of touch do you have to be to pitch it as the feature presentation to the hardcore gamers who attend blizzcon? They deserve everything they got rofl

Grouse gaminess is entirely a function of time of year/what they are eating here. In winter when they are literally eating spruce needles they taste like shit lol. Pretty strong. In fall when they mostly eating berries they taste much better. I REALLY like ptarmigan (a diff kind of tundra type grouse I dunno if you have there, I bet you have something like them.) I kill maybe 30-40 grouse/ptarmigan/ducks a year too I guess, and I really like eating them but i don't ever freeze them or put them up. I just walk my dog in places where I can actually carry a gun and shoot gamebirds and when I get some I eat them for dinner. (also every morning before I let my dog outside I check and make sure if there are any in my driveway/cuz too many times I see them as I let him out and he scare them away.)

Actually I just go look it up and I think the same ptarmigans we have here you should have there too at least in north part above 60deg. I don't have them around area where I live (I have spruce grouse here), but area where I hunt caribou there are lots. They are great to eat. But nothing like chicken. Meat is very dark. (This is true with all gamebirds I've ever eaten) As a random aside, the place where I hunt caribou is actually about 450 road miles from where I actually live. Where I grew up/where my parents live is right about in the middle.

The only thing I don't like eating, so I don't shoot them any more is rabbits. Snowshoe Hares technically. They are just no good to eat, and the amount of work to make them edible is not worth. Which is funny because I have a beagle. (rabbit hound)

Maybe in the long-term. In the short term it won't really do anything. The house is more about holding the current administration accountable for some laughably inept corruption. It has subpeona powers and drafts all budgets. So some level of compromise has to happen eventually on budgets, but I wouldn't be surprised if both sides just punt on everything else that's important.

i don't think China is the place where you want to get all woke on racism suddenly

people are probably just bored because ded gaem no patch

also the hunting season usually ends around this time so you aren't even allowed to hunt most game in the winter
i don't bother hunting since i'm living the city life down south most of the year, and reindeer is practically a vegetable, the perfect animal

The whole rabbit thing sounds like nonsense, if you have a rabbit hound can't you just train it to do all the work?

no, the work is in preparing the carcass, eg skinning it, taking out the parts you don't eat (stomach, liver, etc). Plus there's probably a lot of work involved getting bits off the carcass that are not pure bone/fat/sinew.

killing them isn't so hard

That's what I meant. Train it to prepare it as well. I mean if it's not hard to kill something why even categorize the dog as a rabbit hound you know. Really hoped the dog would be able to more than just chasing.
