It just shows how big the disconnect between Bizzard and their community has become. And who paid Blizzard royally in the past feel replaced now since they aren't the target audience anymore.

EDIT: In the end this will prevail anyways:

Red Dead update: Close to 50% through the story. The game continues to hold up, with me slow burning through the content. Hunting is a pain in the ass due to lack of information on where to find specific animals and an inability to no spook them with your horse. You can get off your horse, but then you are slow. Its hard to see if the animals are around and find a quality animal(they come in three versions, poor, good and perfect).

The act of hunting the animal is interesting because you are focused on not running the pelt and getting a perfect kill. That means a head shot with a low power rifle or bow, both which can be a chore to use. Also the animals are real fucking fast and move their heads around a lot, because they are dicks. Except for buffalo, which are easy as hell to hunt.

The writing still holds up, with the camp still being the highlight of the game. You get to spend a lot of time their just listening to people talking, songs and doing chores. It is delightful because of the high quality visuals, music and slow movement. Red Dead 2 takes all the best features of the indie walking simulator and makes it the central hub in their massive open world game.

Tips for people:

White missions can be lost due to forward progress in the game, so do them first.
Chores are black dots on the map around the camp.
Don’t pay off your bounties if you want to interact with all the games systems. Sometimes it is fun to have the law after you.

When you say "their community" I think you might be assuming that the people mad about this represent the majority of Blizzard's fanbase. I don't believe that is correct, since I know large parts of Blizzards super fan base do not interact with each other. That con is filled with cos-players ever year, none of them are on this website or any of the super gaming reddits I read.

Maybe it's just me living in on the other side of the planet, maybe its just the friends I have/sites I visit/things I am interested in. But I personally don't know anyone who is a Blizzard fan without being a (or being a past) hardcore PC gamer. So yes, from my view the Blizzcon audience represents the hardcorest of harcore fans who shilled out lots of money to go there and get shat on.

Ok, so there is a huge super fandom for WoW that is all about fan fiction and cos-play. The same with Overwatch. Overwatch fandom is also has a super gay sub community. And a shipping community, because those characters are all easy to pair up as couples. Hearthstone is its own weird nightmare. HOTS has its own community of people who enjoy it. The self titled “hardcore PC gamer” is just one part of the Blizzard fanbase. I doubt it makes up even 20% of people who love their games.

It is fine to be disappointed that it wasn’t an expansion or D4. It is cool to say “Man, that mobile game isn’t my thing, I really wanted D4. Maybe I’ll try Path of Exile”.

The part where fans were “shat on” is where I really start to have problems with the framing of what happened. Acting like a company personally insulted fans because they didn’t announce a video game we all KNOW they are making is cry baby shit. Blizzard said they were not doing anything big for Diablo:

https://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/no-diablo-news-blizzcon-2018-1202984181/

And then they did exactly what they said they would do. No one got shat on.

Personally I don't care about Diablo at all. I couldn't get into any Blizzard game apart from Starcraft and The Lost Vikings, so I never was a big Diablo fan in the first place. And I didn't know about the communities around other games, thanks for shedding some light on that.

For me it always seemed apparent that they were carried by the hardcore community. And nobody can deny their latest moves don't have this audience in mind anymore. Some of them feel replaced and lose their minds. I can sympathise with that, but I don't condone with the extent of the current situation because in the end most of them will come back and suck Blizzards scrotum anyways. Just like most of us do with Dota.

Like I said, for me it's primary just funny how both parties (Blizzard and the hardcore part of the community) managed to drift apart so far. Or maybe Blizzard knew it would blow up like this and want to use it to their advantage. Whatever, it will blow over next week and I won't hear about mobile Diablo ever again.

It amuses me as well. Company announces that they don’t have a new big release in the next calendar year, stocks move slightly.

This has never been true. Blizzard has made mass market games forever. BW was just an expansion on an RTS game. Diablo 2 was considered kinda trash when it came out because it only ran at 800x600 and was a baby RPG for babies who only clicked. I remember because my PC gaming friends made fun of me for being excited about them back when I was in high school.

Blizzard has never been carried by the self styled hardcore gamming community. That type of ownership is something the hardcore community tries to assert over Blizzard. They feel ownership of Blizzard games and retroactively created mythos about BW and D2 as “hard core games”.

But the 13 million people that played WoW are not the “hardcore” fanbase and never have been.

Blizzards audience has probably become a lot more diverse since they started making stuff like hots and overwatch. It's been clear that blizzard hasn't been making games for "hardcore" players for many years.
I wouldn't be surprised if the OG fans are vastly outnumbered by now

Well, I'm living in Edinburgh, which basically is the London of Scotland, so it's very mixed here language wise.
I've got contact to some Scots, albeit not that many. But it's safe to say that when people start muttering in a heavy accent that I'd have problems understanding them on the fly. Sometimes my brain just needs a couple more seconds to abritait grasp what has been said xd. In everyday life I've encounter no problems thus far.

And I love the Scottish accent.
The guy that runs adoredtv on YouTube is a fine example of a easily understood Scottish accent that has a fun character to it.
Robbie Shepherd, the retired presenter of take the floor on BBC Scotland is a shining example of how I imagine people were talking in Scots (and I try to imitate his voice when reading short stories in Scots to my wife ). He also had a fantastic profile picture on the Iplayer.

E:I looked at his video about the Glasgow terrorist attack and it was alright understanding him. Some stuff will become clear through context but other words are just slang that you either know or don't xd
