I feel like it's less about how the games are actually good and more just how BR makes it easy for a group of friends to jump in and out of a shooter that contains a lot of RNG elements, which gives a huge chunk of bad players a chance to get far in a game, or even win.

With Fortnite especially the demographic seems to be just about everyone, so it might be the first real online experience for a lot of people too.

Yeah, Fortnite is free, fun and kinda like moba in the sense that every game is different-ish

It definitely have its merits. Pubg is way smaller than fortnite, even though it sold like hotcakes some time ago

Fortnite's got an art style that appeals to everyone (especially the 5-13 age group), is easy to pick up and learn but still has a high skill ceiling (apparently), is free, and is a sociable game that encourages teamwork. Unlike LoL it isn't as complex on the knowledge, and with so many of their social media celebrities picking up on it, well you know how impressionable kids get.

I'm not a huge BR fan, but I think it would be hard to pretend the genre isn't fun. There's so much replay value, much like dota/league but with easier and faster matches that you are less invested in. Fortnite is also the absolute perfect game to play with friends. Imagine being 10 and playing it all night at a sleepover with some friends. It's this generations goldeneye/smash.

There's probably some people that truly dislike the games I guess. I think Pubg completely fucked up and ruined the game by not listening to their community (and not fixing BIG ASS BUGS), and fortnite is just not my style. But the overall idea of the BR genre is still great imo.

edit: Also it's incredibly important to point out that BRs tend to be the perfect streaming games. You can interact with chat so much more compared to most other competitive titles.

Fortnite knows how to appeal to the youth so well too. They add shit like "dabbing" and "the floss dance" into the game and people just eat that up.

BR is death match on a much bigger scale with higher stakes since you can only die once. But you spawn(drop) in, pick up weapons and power up and murdered whatever fools you come across. It is big because it is accessible and really hard to ruin someone else’s good time.

I've only seen monkeys play fortnite and it looked rather dull.
Dicking around with friends is another story. Easy accessibility and it being free are good points as well.

It isn’t my cup of tea either, but I get why people like it. And it will run on anything, which has its own merit. Compared to Destiny or a monster hunter, it is so easy to get players into it.

i'm actually having difficuly coming up with an appropriate simile since pubg is literally the landmark example of bar-none the worst community mismanagement combined with technical incapability in a smash-hit game.

The game became a huge hit overnight and they have never been able to staff up to manage what is expected of a game that size. I don't care how many millions you have, hiring good people is fucking hard.

That being said, it isn't an excuse. But pubg never seemed like a game with a clear direction or vision. The title of the game says it all, TBH. A game so directionless that even the title seems confused.

I've watched maybe an hour or so of people streaming it and I think it has potential at the very least. We'll see how many of the top streamers stick with it tho.

It can definitely replace PUBG for the people that dislike where that game has gone and also just don't like the Fortnite style.

not sure what you're after but if you're going for a milsim pubg has the best balance between playability and realism
cod is real arcade-y and the armor/perks make it bad for balance

late to the discussion but the weeks where I work a ton of hours are definitely my most productive: I'm in the zone after vacation w/ t h e b o y s and working like 13-ish (today, sometimes more!) hours a day and I fucking love it when I'm in this mode.

But I can't do it long long term, it's just when I'm in the zone I'm in the zone
