his 13th amendment rant was more about the prison system incarcerating more minorities and forcing them to work for pennies, which really equates (in his mind, at least) to modern day legalized slavery

and then on other topics like globalization and outsourcing of lowskilled labor he makes the classic myopic argument of bringing jobs home but gets too granular
globalization and automation is supposed to free up the rest of your population to move to more efficient higher skill tasks
and trade imbalances are never a zero sum game
