Does it work in CS, or is it just not a great format all around?

Not every format works on every game but i'll just enjoy the upsets this format brings this tournament hopefully they don't bring this shit again. Or if they do don't make it a major

It kinda works in CS because they have a 7 map pool and both teams get 3 map vetos. So in a BO1 6 maps get vetoed and they play on the 7th. This way you can eliminate a lot of randomness. Its like banning 100 heros in Dota2 and playing with the 10 heros that are left.

u act like this the fucking winner of the major gets determined with this format its literally group stage idk and if u call losing 3 bo1s to "shitty teams" upset it isnt being upset it means u suck how is it so much worse to be able to get knocked out by losing 3 bo1s than the esl tournaments where u can lose 1 bo1 and 1 bo3 to get knocked out i enjoy this format and i dont see any (non bullshit) reasons against it, teams might complain about not being able to prepare for certain opponents (cuz on day1 they could play anyone) but i think thats a good thing. this format just requires teams to show different skills (eg. adapting, preparing in a different way etc.) i actually think the part where teams get to ban most maps in CS is terrible cuz it makes teams only play 2-3-4 different maps and it gets very repetitive, but maps are another huge issue thats gonna catch up with cs eventually if they dont do something about it oh and why are upsets even a fucking bad thing, would u rather live in a smashesque world where literally only vp liquid secret newbee could take games off of each other? how fucking dull and boring

The whole issue is that only some teams have to deal with the issues of the format. Secret or Liquid dropping a couple Bo1s doen't mean all that much for them, they will probably qualify anyway. But it means LGD.FY goes out after playing 3 of the top 4 DPC teams while NB can go 3-0 by beating Vega, OG and EG. And they do complain about it in CS too. You hear people wanting to reseed the matchups after every round, which also doesn't make a lot of sense.

The issue here is that the group stages eliminate half the teams but b01 swiss doesn't really show that the half that made it is actually the BETTER half of the 16 teams compared to lets say a b01 seeding similar to TI4(cause everybody plays everybody so it's much more tangible) I'd be fine with swiss system if this was b03 instead of b01. I don't think i would be complaining if the group stages doesn't actually remove half the teams before the main event cause if you are gonna do that just make the seeding not flukey.

I feel like for every tournament people complain about the format, regardless of what is used, people will find something to complain about.

Format should depend on what you ultimately want your tournament measure. If it's just entertainment or storyline but then go ahead go for b01 swiss. Stuff like captains draft exist for that stuff and it's fine but if it's a 16 team tournament with huge qualifying points on the line i'd rather we have a much more stable format cause it's actually measuring who are the teams good enough that should be playing on TI. TI is after all about the best teams throughout the year competing for the title. I'd rather not that some team didn't make it or some team made because a flukey major decided this and we actually get less of what should be expected on TI
