Riot talking about diversity is actually hilarious considering that some of their statements are basically "You guys began playing the game in a way we don't want you to, heres a nerf or change to stop the diversity, but we're changing it because of toxic gameplay!!!"

Dota needs a Pandamonium, that hero was the shit
|
...Why are people just noticing these things now.
Kupo come save us please
|
is all ok tho they have new dj skrillex arcana that makes grill hero double f boobs giant butt and skintight outfit
|
"Jungle Diversity": in before they start claiming it was a SJW Illuminati conspiracy that ruined the game by promoting Jungle Diversity. Junglers needed a safe zone.

Only riot approved meta is allowed in riot approved tournaments

People in LoL for some reason just become really attached to 1 hero, I guess that might be a sign of good game design, but w/e. So basically you have a whole forum worth of xXx Mecha King Godlord xXx or whatever the guy on LD who only picks viper is called. Can't expect too much out of that.
|
I wouldn't call that good game design, i'd call it a byproduct of people having to set up rune pages, masteries and actually purchasing(either with real money or ingame points) for the champions they want to play. For a lot of people that's gonna promote them focusnig on one champion or one type of champions. And once you're in a comfort zone as a player that can be hard to break out of.

from what i understand it has a lot to do with how riot balances the game, creating flavor of the month heroes.
i do appreciate that while dota has FOTM heroes, that in pubs most heroes are viable for play.

Lets consider a metric on diversity
The DAC group stages had a higher percentage of the hero pool picked than the ENTIRETY OF ALL RIOT-APPROVED TOURNAMENTS DURING HALF THE 2014 SEASON ACROSS 9 MAJOR BALANCE PATCHES AND 7 REGIONS
PS: talking about riot-approval is actually banned on liquidsuperiormoba too

this, exactly. i didn't know it was quite that severe though, 17 balance patches lol.
i also didnt realize you guys were nazi mods over there wtf is up with riot approval?

how do you not talk about riot approval when the entire game is riot approved

Riot also refuses to buff certain champions/heroes that are basically worthless in League of Gapclosers, i.e. Varus/Ashe (semi-long range carries without any mobility what so freaking ever), Udyr (multiple form champion that does basically nothing because everyone has some sort of dash/jump to kite him while he doesn't.

Rune pages are so generic though. Every role pretty much has similar pages with a few exceptions for truly weird heroes. You can get by on so few. Though I did play a lot since beta....so I had a lot of IP.
I really think its that people just get really attached to a single hero because all of them match up well in their roles. Unlike in Dota where if you play silencer against storm mid, storm is going to have a bad day. People just don't have to switch up heroes as much in LoL.

Talking about Riot aproval is simply not Riot aproved.

I was still playing LoL in early S4, when you could only play 3 heroes in the top/offlane, those were good times, dumpstering kids that didn't follow the Riot approved meta of playing beefy-frontliners.
