They essentially sell a non-complete game after the release because you can't get the full game anymore. What were they going to do with that level anyway? They obviously developed it. yeah preorder bonus' are getting really out of hand.
Evolve has a really bad case of it. theyr giving away a bunch of extra characters and monsters to preorder ppl. theres also another version that goes for $100 with even more playable content. im sucked into the evolve preorder because the beta totally sucked me in but its a pretty disgusting trend

Personally I think that it's somewhat important to distinguish between "preorder" and "kickstarter" though. Some people seem to think of them as the same thing
When Activision shits out another Call of Duty and then refuses parts of the game to me unless I preorder for no goddamn reason, thats disgusting. No it doesn't make sense that I can't play a character in (insert new FGC game here) because I didn't want to preorder it. Etc.
When a developer chooses to create a game outside of existing publishers with the goal of retaining creative control, Kickstarter is a way for consumers to vote for that product with their wallet and to basically prove to others that what that developer is doing is valuable (relevant in cases where you can't kickstart the whole game but you can use a successful kickstarter to drive other funding like selling equity etc).
Other than that, I do like preorders cuz steam lets me preload the game onto my PC and play faster ^.^ but thats only relevant for games that I want the instant they are out and don't care about reviews for anyway.

Evolve is everything wrong with the gaming industry right now if we ignore the game itself and focus on its upcoming release.
60$ on release is a fine price for a game, if you get all available content that is, to have a game released and then on day one, even though you paid the full price you will still be missing out on content? That's plain disgusting.
Not to mention they made the game in a way that they can keep pumping paid DLC into it even with all this day one bonus content you have to pay for.
They're already planning to sell the future monsters for 15$ each :D

DLC after release is fine, since the way video game production works allows for the creative team to work on new stuff while the game goes through beta. But it’s best when games are up front about it and its truly “extra stuff” that is not core to the game. I am not a fan of Evolve’s way of handling it.
But I don’t buy a lot of $60 games any more. The next one will be the Witcher 3 on whatever platform I get that on.
