I posted a list a long time ago of my opinions on them but I can re do it. There are ... 21 atelier games? They generally come in trilogies that share some characters but no real overall story overlap aside from being the same setting. So they fall into a few categories. The male lead ateliers tend to be comedic or traditional rpg-story focused, while the female ateliers tend to be more of a slice of life. That is, slice of life with extremely deep item and crafting mechanics and some type of plot. PS1 ateliers tend to be about Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, PS2 Ateliers are more combat/alchemy focused and closer to a traditional RPG. PS3 Ateliers went back to the PS1 style but added in time limits in the first few games. I think the best PC one is definitely Sophie. Many of the others aren't optimized for PC (no bordeless mode, etc.) and Sophie is also one of the best entries. Essentially, just pick one of the openers to a trilogy from PS3 or later - Rorona, Ayesha, or Sophie. I'd recommend MK1 as a really good RPG with extremely deep crafting mechanics - but it isn't really like any of the others (it's also got something of a very sad ending). Pretty much all the DS entries are awful, but outside of that there's only one title I think is straight up worse than the others (Feris, which had a shorter dev time than the rest and decided to be open world, which the series had NEVER done before). Nelke also isn't a real Atelier game so I'd avoid it. I've heard Ryza has a very good story but weaker combat than the rest of the series, due to going to real time after 20+ previous entries were turnbased. It does feel weird. Trilogies - Dusk - Best overall, somewhat unique and ominous setting. The downside is that the best versions are VITA only Arland - Best characters and the most popular. It's somewhat simpler than the other trilogies but has time management aspects. Mysterious - Most uneven. The opener (Sophie) is amazing, followed by the very weak Firis, then Lydia is an above average entry with some insane DLC prices (ever want to spend 50$ to unlock side characters that feel like they should be in your party? This is the dlc for you!) Iris - Least like the rest of the series. Best Story: Mana Khemia Best Combat: Mana Khemia 2 Worst Story : Mana Khemia 2 (Ulala or w/e her name is is just awful. Raze's is fine but incomplete. It's only actually finished in an obscure, obscure PS3 game called Cross Edge that is just a mess of everything - somehow it has ps2 level graphics on the ps3 and runs at perhaps 15 fps in battle, with a cross over between 15x franchises that gets ... real weird). edit : I've not played the PSX ones, Lulua, or Ryza (these are all 2018 or later releases where I was busy - the PSX ones are well regarded in Japan but only got an english translation in late 2018)

English VA got removed from I think Sophie on though. (Sidenote MK1 has a really good english performance from the protagonist, but outside of that the Japanese was usually better anyways and almost all of the games have dual voice option). They never go on sale for more than 20-25% off though. Sophie is pretty cheap (30$), especially compared to the ridiculous 60$+60$ dlc of the new ones.

Will have to look up how to properly undervolt this thing. was kinda shocked by the 40-50 °C whil idling with my custom watercooling thingy. The all core 3.8 GHz 1600 was below 30 before. Then I checked the water temperature and it hovered around 23 °C. So I reapplied the thermal paste, which turned out to have been too little, but alas that didnt make any difference. Then I activated the windows power saving profile and temperature immediately dropped from 5x to 35 degrees. lmao. While playing AC Odyssey for a good 30-50 minutes the water temperature also didn't rise above 30, so I guess the die temperature of the 3600 will just be high no matter what.

Im still not convinced my thermal paste application was the best. though its rather apparent to me from last night's experiments that the energy profiles do affect the idle temperature with about 20 degrees difference.

My gaming budget is 40 CAD/month which accumulates to 100 if I don't spend it all, and 55 of that is going to MHW:Iceborne. I currently have 60 ""saved up"" though so I might pull the trigger when I beat Trails of Cold Steel II. Oh fuck I also need to buy Super Neptunia RPG and Azur Lane Crosswave at some point. Or just wait for a sale since I have a bunch of other games to play right now. Really appreciate the thoughts!

Gigabyte x570 itx mobo, and I used noctua paste. FWIW, AMD posted their power profiles for download but I'm not sure how much of an impact that has. I haven't touched the voltage.

Going for the AMD power plan or the 1usmus jolts it back up again :C
