And steam easily allows for it.
Such a shitty service, so capitalist /s I’m glad that the bloated software that constantly updates and restarts for reasons has a feature you enjoy.
Two features! That operate in tandem and independantly! You can use ps4 controllers to play steam games, a feature that neither sony nor microsoft were willing to oficially support on a PC platform, despite it being quite possible. And you can add non-steam software to boot from the steam launcher, so you can access features of steam from those other softwares, or just consolidate your PC gaming library into a single entity. Those were just from an arbitrary example I pulled out of my hat, anyways. It isn't like I had to think long and hard about niche features of steam I -actually use-
You complain about steam like I complain about windows, but if you ever want to actually engage the idea that valve is an evil corporate entity, you're going to have to accept the burden of proof. It's all well and good to announce that steam is bloatware and valve is an entity consumed by capitalist greed, but to be a responsible human being having a discussion about a thing, you're gonna have to take it a step further than that.

the only thing i can agree with p6 about steam, is that valve could do a better job with dealing with the amount of shovelware that gets sold on the store.
one thing i disagree the most with p6 is on steam reviews. p6 was of the opinion that steam reviews are awful because of review bombs, and that you can just get reviews from other places anyway. which to me is like saying air travel is bad because flights very occasionally get hijacked and therefore we should ban planes.

I like steam about as much as I like Microsoft word. It’s really that simple.
Edit: and Java and ITunes.

And facebook. And at least I agree with you on facebook, but there's a lot of obvious datamining / unethical information storage there that is obviously bad.
I'd probably be singing a different tune if I had indications that steam/valve was "stealing" my information and using it to tailor advertisements to me, or build a profile on my purchasing habits. I don't really get the steam hate, though. I hate windows because it is expensive and side-grades every few years, bringing with it a bunch of "features" I need to turn off again (No, windows 10, i do not want to use your game-recording feature. Thanks for the disruptive popup, now fuck off forever.) But I've never experienced too much in the way of steam being intrusive/invasive.
While we're on the subject of bitching about windows, anyone else having discord force massive popups whenever anyone talks in a discord channel you're part of? I've been too lazy to fix it, but it is making me hate discord.

In Settings -> Notifications you can disable all notifications (first option), have you tried that?

Java has improved a lot since java 1.7. I actually like 8+

Borderlands games getting review bombed on steam is a compelling argument to never release borderlands 3 on steam.

Tbh I hadn't tried anything because I was comfy just being grumpy about it :D
That probably worked though. I'll let you know if it didn't. Thanks!

a friend of mine is (co) lead writer of borderlands 3 lol
why is it getting panned I just went down a bad vidya rabbit hole after reading the kotaku piece on how anthem failed / how the company is fallin apart (which was quite good tbh)

Just remember, those managers who fucked over anthem also killed mass effect.
|
Mass effect did a pretty good job on its own of killing mass effect

In a few years games will be gpu exclusive and some will look back and say "hmmm maybe epic paying for exclusives wasn't that good for us consumers"
And some will try to defend it

Dragon Age is made by the same company that made Mass Effect, right?
Been watching OG games on the EU Disney Major Qualifiers. And Ana still looks like the literal best carry in proscene even after like 6 months break or something
I'm still surprised that he started on the chinese scene but they didn't manage to capitalize on his talent

Didn't it win some of the year award ?

Abit rushed on the mage-templar thing(which was setup for a fullgame before it so was disappointed that it got resolved in like like a single arc) and cory not being too fleshed out (tho they did pretty well for the big bad reveal)
There isn't yet but there has been news circulating for DA4.
The trailer of the game upcoming gmae. + Show Spoiler +

I'd prefer a return to the party structure and combat where you pause time and issue commands they had in DAO but I don't know how much of a market there would be for that sort of thing in 2019.
|
Well pause was still there on DAI but being able to queue different actions on a single party member similar to DAO was pretty great.

They could have just closed the parliament to finally polish up Westminster for two years and nothing would have been lost in that time.
