Makes me want cry seeing him played that way. The hero doesn't do much but lane well until he finishes Meka anyway. He's actually a fairly poor ganking hero in competitive games because compared to the ganking heroes that are actually strong in competitive play, he has fairly low engagement range. He HAS to get Phase Boots to gank because his base MS is too low to use other Boots to engage--and even then he only contributes slows to a gank. Essentially, the way the hero is played right now revolves heavily around his Meka timing because his strengths are laning and being essentially an immovable wall with maxed Corrosive Skin. Trying to gank with him requires some pretty situational item choices, and ultimately can kill his tempo if they fail or are poorly executed.
So he is used to carry Mek, that's it?

Well, generally to win a lane, then carry a mek, then interfere with an opposing BKB carry via aghs ult. In that order.
U can totally go blink + orchid and gank tho don't listen to no-fun yango who only likes good item builds.

I've said it before, it blows my mind that Slasher and Patrick Klepek are employees of CBSI under the same title. Klepek is the pinnacle of what you want in a reporter, informed, respectful, connected as well liked. He only publishes information he thinks is news worthy and only burns bridges when necessary. He is thoughtful about his role and vocalizes those thoughts in a constructive manner. He takes on the hard subjects like negativity on the internet and show companies are responding to it.
And then there is slasher, who couldn't even get a scoop like when NASL was going under and spends his time trying to get his stories up voted on reddit.

Who is Patrick Klepek I've never heard of him

His question was specifically about why pros play the hero a certain way and, well, when the hero is less likely to snowball in the context of a professional game, that often forces you to play more closely to his biggest strengths.

Well time to wait in queue foreveeeeer

He is the head news reporter for giant bomb. He broke the Xbox dropping their DRM story and is generally an all around good guy. He will report on big issues in video games, like ballooning budgets leading to very "safe" games and also report on little things, like all the crazy people who love EVE and travel to ice land for fan fest.
He also has better hair than slasher.

If you paired him with a support with a good stun like CM or ES wouldn't he be able to get kills quite easily?

Hero doesn't need mana if you are always all str, so you can get mek.

I seem to recall some strange control interactions from morph-replicate-juxtapose illusions. Like I'd get control of ones my morphling generated randomly or something I'm not sure. It was a long time ago.

If he has to run around the map with a support attached to him to gank, then it makes ganks way more obvious and easier to avoid when the two have to be together to be dangerous. And there are STILL many heroes that you wouldn't be able to gank because Viper doesn't have burst damage, so the single lead-off stun from the support wouldn't be enough to kill something like Storm or AM that has an escape skill.
The hero isn't fundamentally a gank hero because he has low base MS, low engagement range without Agha, no burst damage, and no hard disable. These are issues that can be addressed with items and levels when you are sufficiently fed, but in a professional game, these are weaknesses that are typically drafted around so the hero can play to his strengths.

Basically support ganking viper doesn't work simply because the slow scales with level in the skill

Well we were on the same team.
But they may have fixed it anway.
Don't ask why we had morph and PL on the same team please.
