It really doesn't matter dude. You'll pick up carry tips when ur carry does something next level as ur supporting him, or if nothing else you'll see what is a big mistake when ur carry does it while ur supporting him. Same thing goes for support tips as you play carry. "My supports never ward this spot and I get ganked from here mostly" well now u learned where to ward as a support, while still playing as carry. Etc.
The real way to improve is to be a student of the game. Think about EVERYTHING. Go over a replay every once in a while. Who cares what everybody else did, just think super hard about EVERY decision you made. "Why ward there? Why start in that lane? Why level that skill? Why buy those items? Why pull? Why/Why not smoke mid? why everything!"
And when something bad happens, "How can I get to my jungle to stop them warding faster next time? How can I avoid getting first blooded? How can I stop their offlaner farming? How can I help my mid win? How can I get a faster item (blink/force/mek/whatever). etc"

I think being balanced is better overall as well, this way you never get into a game where you end up on something you're completely uncomfortable on. I am bad at taking my own advice though and as such never play carry or mid.
Then again I don't enjoy just straight feeding, so there is that.

Only way you're handicapping yourself is if you don't have fun.
|
People play games to have fun? What kind of heresy is this? Honestly, I never thought about replay analysis like with sc2. That's a pretty good tip. I'll try that this evening and see if I can learn at least 2-3 things from every review. Ill be a baller in no time! Or at least I'll suck less. That's all I can hope for.

For myself I try to have a few go to heroes in a specific role and have a limited pool. Not to specialized either and heroes that can do a lot win a couple of kills, like slark or PA. For offlaners, in pick tide, clock or timber.
And wraith king, because no know fills out a front like like wraith king.

Also, in order to play a good support you need to understand what your carry needs from you, and in order to understand that you need to be reasonably competent as a carry. And vice versa. As a carry, you need to understand what your supports will be able to do for you, and when you need to work with them instead of leech off of them, etc.

I actually don't find ursa to be that amazing in low level pubs. I've seen him go to town with good farm and a shadow blade. He just crept up and killed anyone who ventured out alone. But without team support, he doesn't seem to do a whole lot. And at ~2500 MMR, support from your team is inconsistent at best. At that level you still have supports jacking your last hits and no wards to be found. And a walking courier at 10 mins. Drives me apeshit lol.

U can just jungle ursa.
Start stout + tangoes (salve optional), Kill big + medium camps alternately, you should get 900 or 1000g around level 3 or 4. Run back to base, heal up, buy morbid mask and smoke (or beg a smoke from support), go kill rosh (nobody should scout at 2.5K mmr). Bam 7 min rosh or some shit. ez. Go buy phase, save for a blink, win.
You should be like 2 levels ahead of their mid player after rosh, just run around killing their whole team lol. Nobody is gonna hide just because you are off the map.

i lose 100% of my games vs strength core lineups
Tiny, Doom, Axe, Abba, Brew, Centa, SPiritbreaker
If 3 of those are in enemy team, 100% loss. especially tiny. If there s a tiny, no need for others
WTF is going on

Play timbersaw. Free wins (unless u get doomed lel).

Also I was mid ursa, vs a tinker + axe dual lane and alt tabbed for most of the first 10 mins get ur facts right. I think i woulda had 3x the farm in the jungle.
PS ur axe musta had god spawns honestly he jungled super fast without taking any fucking damage and spending like 80% of the time jacking off in my lane.

Ok, as someone in that dark MMR range, I agree ursa is kinda trash. No one picks awesome supports like bane to lock shit down for him.
Also, I just buy the flying courier after a while, even if I am mid. It's going to take at least 45 minutes for me to get my team to rub up against the tier 3s and end the game, so there is plenty of time to get it back.

I don't even remember what happened that game all I recall is that was my first time playing with the axe player and ck/kotl is impotent
oh and everyone kept forgetting to write rosh timer down

Amen trench-brother. Although the jungling Ursa mini guide does sound promising. I guess you don't need a lot of help when you're a couple levels ahead of both mids, sporting an aegis, and leading net worth. If it works out that way of course. If someone on their team isn't a total fucktard and comes to gank you when you're at 25% HP after clearing a camp... Well that could be problematic. Oh well. At least I have something FUN to try =P
Edit: LOL my phone auto corrected jungling to bungling. Story of my fucking life.

Try it once in a practice lobby first, since the first part literally ignores every other player until after rosh anyway

Really at that level of trench, there are a couple of traits I look for in my heroes:
Can they knock down a tower?
Can they make shit happen?
Can they farm and gtfo if necessary?
So pretty much slark/DP every game. Or Lycan, but he falls off to hard without help.

Slark hits towers exceedingly poorly
You may wish to try le clinkz
Tower killer supreme, great at solo-killing out of position supports or people farming their jungle, capable of ricing forever and carrying, etc.
Although clinkz does rather require enough gamesense to properly choose what you should be doing at that point in time (Jungling, Looking for kills, Hitting buildings, etc).

I actually tend to look for heroes that can snowball out of control without too much help from my team. I just can't trust them to not suck. I've posted it in other threads, but I swear that approximately 22 out of my last 30 games have had 2 people on my team who go 0-XX (that's double digits. Double. Digits). If I can't carry the game by myself or with one other player on my team, I'm in real trouble. Its sad that I have to approach the game that way.
