Ember Spirit's problem isn't SoF, it's the fact that he has ridiculous mobility on top of SoF and a few other things. It's just that when you start tacking on other things like his high burst damage without items, his ability to scale through SoF, and his crazy mobility, that you get a seriously dumb hero. He can be countered, but it usually takes alot of effort and not always reliable unless you have some lame hero like Storm or Natures Prophet that almost always carries an Orchid.
Plus to be fair, it's about time we got a hero that just utterly dumps on illusion heroes on a consistent basis. Ember Spirit being viable and effective means that heroes like PL, Naga, and TB are forced to ratdota rather than use their illusions late game in teamfights, otherwise their whole team gets blown up (or they do) by mass crits on illusions. And dear god, those three heroes aren't op (TB is only borderline because of his ability to bully in lane and early game prowess with Meta), but they are seriously annoying.

I feel like ember would be just a very strong hero and not bullshit rage indcing if SoF didn't go through fog of war.

Tbh, the more icefrog waits, the more the international meta will be similar to what it is now. The meta of this patch was really good until it became lycan, naga and ember abuse. I think proteam don't have much trouble to hit those heroes' peak same as it was rather easy to hit naix or alche power peak before. The problem is not really that those heroes are strong when they have right items, it that it's too easy to get there. It's like a puck who would get his dagger at min 8 every game or a storm with guaranteed 15 minutes orchid. Those 2 heroes are at their peak following some really good plays whereas lycan ember and naga don't need this, not failing too hard seem enough.
