IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Skill in dota is just so complex, because people can have wildly varying ability with different heroes, and even with different aspects of playing the one hero. If someone is at your MMR and looks a million times worse than you in some context, you can bet he's a million times better than you in some other context to make up for it. That's just how rating works.

I remember one night where this was really clear to me. We ended up with a 4-protect-1 with an instapick Riki in AP. This Riki was awful. He never farmed despite being our only real core. He wasted all the space we gave him by randomly hanging out in the woods hoping for kills. He rushed MoM and never bought a BKB despite them having like SS+lion+voker+Luna. He was totally useless and we lost badly despite crushing the earlygame.

The very next game, I got the same guy. He came to my lane as an ogre magi, stole lasthits and auto'd the wave. I was on the verge of abandoning. Then he left the lane, ambled mid, and got a kill. Then he ambled bot and set up a double kill. Then he ambled mid again and got another kill. Then the enemy team failure cascaded and we won in like 20 minutes. This dude who had been completely awful the last game singlehandedly won the next, talking in broken english the whole time, insisting that necro was a support, following the Valve guide through life.

All my strategy couldn't give me the sense for ganks that this guy had. He just needed to be on a hero and in a context that used what he was good at. I could have done a far better job in the first game, but I could not have won the second game the way he did. We deserved the same MMR.

It's even more simple than that. Sometimes you get good circumstances and simply have a good flow throughout the game and sometimes you do not. One of my best games ever was the second time I played Slark. I hit every pounce and got like 28 kills or something and my team was in awe at how skilled I was. A few games later I played Slark and hit probably 1/10 pounces and I realized I had no clue how to play the hero.

Sounds like that's what my next game as Ember Spirit is going to be. First time playing him ever, I got multiple Triple Kills, an Ultra Kill, ended up with the highest GPM and most kills overall (not sure about KDR, don't remember that, but pretty sure that I got on top of that too), managed to escape death by the skin of my teeth countless times... but next time I'm sure I'll know nothing about how to play the hero. Which is a shame, because I love heroes as beautifully mobile as Ember Spirit. No wonder he's getting so much attention by the top level of players. He's an absolute joy to play.

I've been trying out randoming immediately in AP.
If I get support, I'm 100% the only one(,at least who supports). I'm also dependent on the carries not sucking.
If I get carry and call a lane, 50% some russian comes and takes my lane. We usually get 5 carries. If someone picks support, they don't know what they are doing, or don't do anything at all.
If I get a jungler, there's a good chance of winning, probably because it makes the last pick Doom pickers(no matter what) unable to ruin the game.

it's a fun and stress free experience, try it out for yourself if you are not afraid of all the abandons and reports you'll get
It might just be the best way to enjoy the trench.

Just keep playing him if you enjoy him. Some games you will feed and some you will do well, just like with your best hero. Only way to learn is to practice.

The twitch stream is scheduled 1 hour before it launches in steam. I don't know if they're just going to do bullshit filler for an hour or actually show it an hour early.

They could very well have a partnership with twitch to go an hour early to try and stir up more viewers and get some bonus hype behind it. With people that might not have steam or might not know the movie exists. Try and get the people that see a ton of viewers somewhere and go "wtf is going on over here?" to check it out and maybe get interested in the game. But, I have no idea.

That describes my playstyle a lot.

My support play is pretty much about get lvl2 in lane and getting kills around. my carry play is pretty much shit, but sometimes i play it anyway. I either spend too little time on farming, or just never stop. Don't really think on when should i stop.

Indeed. I have a higher success rate building MoM on that hero than legitimately smart items.
