Damage type: Direct HP removal if the target will not die from the hit, else Pure. Probably something to do with dota 1 coding, pure/direct hp removal aren't exactly the same but since EMP is blocked by bkb they're pretty much the same in this instance. edit - the difference is that if it's pure it will be affected by things like spectre refraction or bristleback or coco's rum, basically. Also - what's with the next.kz new throwing scandal? There doesn't really seem to be a ton of proof at the moment other than "really bad draft."

He zones you out entirely and if he runs a bottle (which I see a lot of ODs doing now) he is going to have full mana and be able to eat the last words as much as he wants till you can't cast spells. There's a big difference with Silencer is that he's actually a far stronger hero at level 1 due to much higher base damage and an orb attack. Being bullied a lot less level 1 matters a lot here. All HP removal sources have triggers to check whether they would be lethal and do a non-HP removal damage instance on lethal hits so they can actually kill.

Interestingly, different HP removal sources have different lethal triggers for some reason. Heartstopper Aura does 100 physical + 100 magical + 100 pure; EMP sets the target's HP to 1, then does the normal damage value in magic damage; VS' Wave of Terror does 1.33x HP removal amount in magic damage. Normally these differences don't matter because the target dies anyway, but in DotA 1 there are certain cases where they make a difference--for example an Abaddon with ult active survives each skill with a different amount of HP, depending on which lethal damage trigger was supposed to kill him.

(though even if the skill only ticked once per second which I'm pretty sure it doesn't you'd still need something like 20k+ HP). i think it only means they go down to 1 hp instead of dying on next tick and die on the next tick

I'm thinking going for something different like forcestaff, hex or shiva is much better now. the impact damage was never a really big deal, the double golems are the majority of the dps from warlock ult.
