Pretty big joke imo. Cash in on flash in the pan gaming for more viewers, wow arena 2.0. League is a fine game and I understand why people enjoy it but as an 'esports' competitive title its a joke compared to dota, plain and simple. MLG just announced pro league checkers, when they have chess on the shelf. Just looking at IPL4's viewer numbers it makes sense to me. There really is no other game that can compete with those numbers. LoL streams regularly keep 5k+ viewers and there is usually a stream with 15k+. MLG has already shown that it is in it for the moneys and not the more subjective matter of which game is the most competitive. I don't see why there is not room for both though?
You can't root for both if you want growth in both. There is only so much room in the 'arts' space. If major tournaments all go league to cash in on huge playerbase, it leaves no room for dota 2.
The only way both could be successful is if dota2 has enough outside interest to run its own independent tournaments of the magnitude of MLG/IPL etc. I don't think this is feasible. If tournaments continue to cash in on league rather then grow dota (which with asia has far more viewers then LoL) dota will continue to be the better game on the smaller stage. Until tournaments wakeup and see LoL is just WoW arena 2.0, dota will be relegated to the small online cups and local tournaments, even after release.
Our only hope is either tournaments are smart enough to see the market share DOTA has in asia and wants to capitalize or league viewership slows down, like what happened to WoW. All the tournaments looking for a quick buck are going to host LoL, all there is to it.

Well starladder has already 30k. I would say the final could easily double that.

It's going to be an epic battle between DotA's pedigree and large Chinese viewership and Lol's inexhaustible money supply from their exploitative free 2 play business model. That is unless DotA2 has gameplay unlocks in which case it has no chance.

What makes you so sure that they cannot coexist? There have been plenty of esports in the past that had the same genre and coexisted. CS 1.6, source, and quake. wc3 and brood war. As long as people want to watch the game, it will thrive.

DoTA and LoL can coexist just like other sports do.

Ow yeah and You can use necromonicon in Chronoshpere, but I am pretty sure thats not intended in Dota 2. Yes it is. All Void-controlled units operate as normal in chronosphere.

Counter-strike and quake are while both FPS games, fundamentally very different in terms of esports (specifically because one is a team game and one is 1v1). I completely disagree that 1.6 and source peacefully co-existed and would instead argue that the latter killed off both games by splitting the community between a better game and a game sponsors were more willing to throw money at.

I'm happy DotA wasn't picked for MLG, they were looking for a MOBA game after all, just wait for DotA to release, then they'll want a new type of game to be added. Just look at the explosive growth DotA2 has had over the past months and remember how big the DotA1 following is in asia. Also, riot throws money at tournaments themselves, DotA is greeted into dreamhack for example with a sizeable prizepool.

Thats because AP is so damn popular, once other modes than AP were put in I unticked it and ticked everything else and have since. I goddamn hate AP

The real question is what will happen to the queue times for other modes once Valve implements -em.

Double the queue times, four times less retards

Well, too bad for MLG, Dreamhack remains king

How do you play a side solo veno? Obviously level wards, but what do you do with them? Should I push? And how do you push, place in or out of tower range? Point boster or vit?

from the business point of view MLG made the right choice though. They certainly will get more viewers plus they have no plan to expand their market to china in the recent coming years. Their current market is purely NA EU with a bit of Korea and SEA. Its interesting however that they are increasing PC gaming titles which will soon result an FPS title in the near future (CS:go) and valve could put some pressure on MLG this way.

no, you have 0 mobility to escape so if you push you gona die to any disabler. Best way is either dont get ward and let your teammates pull lane, get quick level 6 and gank with mass posion OR get ward and jungle with them everytime lane got pushed.
