MLG is already doing plenty to help young/hungry/bad NA teams. I, for one, am glad that at one of their main events they are bringing "real" teams to the table. Can't wait to watch. ![]()

Yeah, well when you dump a fuck ton of money into your own game and run your own event without concern for making a profit from the streams, its way easier. MLG and Riot are two totally different things in every way. MLG is trying to make money directly from Esports and the event itself. Riot is making money by marketing their own game, skins and other sales. And MLG will run counsel events, but I doubt they will ever totally ditch their core viewers in Dota 2 or SC2(except when there is a conflicting event on the same weekend).

Yeah the 2 games isnt in the same genre and dont compete with each others directly but the number isnt infinite either. Each of these title will take a percentage of the market share: sponsorship, viewer, attention etc... Given how each LoL top streamers could generate 10-20k viewers consistently every night, who would go back and sponsor sc2 teams when their streams only give you 500-2k views at the same cost? The sole idea of this year games' theme: exclusive titles, is to muscle out competitors. Given how Sony and microsoft are pretty much trying to kick each other butts, I wouldnt be surprised if one of them just drop some serious cash on their exclusive titles and start a war from there. We are looking at: titanfall, halo, streetfighter under the wing of microsoft who lost out in the announcement phase. The main problem with dota2 in NA market has always been attraction. We have no advertisement and the PC gamers market is already weak to begin with. To try and build our player base during this time of the year, MLG has some serious balls. They could have done all these things since last year and get much better result but no.... These big companies need to work on their vision. And MLG will run counsel events, but I doubt they will ever totally ditch their core viewers in Dota 2 or SC2(except when there is a conflicting event on the same weekend). its a misconception of people thinking MLG is trying to make money. They are trying to adapt and survive. If they want to make money, SC2 and LoL are pretty much the way to go. It gives you the most attention and good audience. Similar to how Halo and CoD were before they picked up SC2. What MLG is doing is simply an investment in their future. They want something exclusive that they would be able to get a name out of in the next few years. Lets face it, in the last few years THE sc2 event to go to in NA has always been MLG. Their investment around 2009-2010, ditching console games slowly to move into sc2 was incredibly smart and it paid off. They are trying to do the same with dota2 now by ditching sc2 mid way. Im just a bit sad that they cant do this 1 year earlier to get a much better result. They were clearly a bit too greedy with the WCS deal that didnt went their way.

I think there would be huge backlash from communities if one side was trying to push out the other games and MLG is not really into the short term money. They aren't going to burn their base just to get a couple years of Titan Fall money(though that game looks dope as shit). If anything, I see them growing in size to accommodate new games.

Well, NA is mostly a console market. You can only do so much to force an "esport" in an environment where it just doesn't stick. In general, if the game sticks a scene will grow around it from scratch, without a single dollar being invested in anything (initially at least). If there isn't an organic growth like that, it's questionable whether it's a good idea to dump money in it anyway. I've always hated the HERE'S MONEY, PLAY THIS GAME NOW approach. Unless you can truly overkill it like Riot - and let's be honest their game was pretty damn popular to begin with - it usually ends up being a short term marketing gimmick, and nothing is actually "built".
