Root gaming for life. Bear is like one of the least luck-intensive heroes in the game, if Admiral Bulldog's unreal potency with it is anything to go on. Skill is the antithesis of luck, and if one person can take a hero so much farther than everyone else, there must be a hell of a lot of skill compared to the luck involved in that hero.

RNG has two sides... It feels so awesome when you're on the lucky side where everything you need is happening but then the other end is annoyed as hell. It's perfect for Dota

It's perfect for Dota exactly, it just wouldn't be identifiable as DotA if Icefrog were to strip all elements that relate themselves to RNG in the first place. Attacking from the high ground, chance such as crit, evasion, abilities that might proc a on hit or cast (multi cast, root, bash whatever), the VERY basic attack damage itself is between two numbers just like how it was on wc3.
These are all fundamental aspects that make DotA what it is. You can make an argument about toning some percentiles on certain abilities or what not but removing that element of the game completely would make me question their understanding of the game or honestly lack thereof.

Is it just me, or does the victory in ixdl seem to go to the team with the least team strife as opposed to the greatest team skill? It's like both teams are pretty fucked to begin with, and then the more fucked one loses.

thats kind of a narrowminded way to look at things

My opinion is that RNG should stay as part of DOTA's feature. You can use PRD if you want, but the fact that there is RNG makes the game more "human" in the sense that there's always a element of luck involved. Even when your at the receiving end of the RNG it just makes you grin with chagrin.
I know when I get rooted 3 times in a row I will probably flip the table and shout HAXXOR but i will still play on and claim that icefraud should remove that hero or something lol.
At least it's not a guaranteed situation where there's no way out. RNG works both ways, i've been a faceless void where i managed to backtrack everything in a team fight, even lagunas etc which definitely should be making the entire team facepalming in frustration.
I think it's also part of DOTA's charm

nah losing causes more team strife than vice versa

Randomness is good when introduced in a way that ends up being "consistent" over time.
A bear first hit root is great luck, but in all likelihood you will only see it once a game, as the rest of the time you end up needing a few hits.
Same with uphill miss and crits: small mechanics that tend to even out over time.
Something like Tiny or Mirana randomess has much smaller data pool over the course of the game, so it can seem more streaky. However, each skill does have elements that reward good play: isolating enemies in fights and the like. The randomness changes the way you need to play the game if you want to take full advantage, but in a way that rewards skill and knowledge and doesnt take away from the game overall.

The game wasn't going out of control before the strife started; the strife started sending the game out of control.
That's just what I noticed, anyway. It's not like these are serious teams, they're just one-match-long scrim mashups. Tensions are expected.

7 game win streak, getting harder and harder to push the find game button.
what are treasure keys for? dont have a single chest that i can open with them? do older chest suddenly become openable by them or am i missing something?
|
Treasure Keys are for the standard chests (individual hero one's, ie. all items in chest are for drow/kunkka/whoever etc).
|
and its like currency for trading
|
I don't get why you would want old keys ? So you can open that old NP chest that you still haven't opened or deleted ? In case that you get those shitty chests that don't even drop anymore ?
Am I missing something ?
|
no you're not normal keys are primarily used as currency for trading but they'll devalue since they're actually useless
|
Valve could really release new hero chests, last one was like 8 months ago...

Valve should go back to having a single key opening all chests. With all these community chests, hero chest dissapeared, regular keys are now an useless relic of an old age and you can't buy keys ahead of time since you have no idea what you are going to get next.
I don't even really see how is the current system more profitable for Valve. Or add a key that opens every chest thats sells for a bit more if they want to make money that bad I don't know.

I still have 52 hero chests unopened (I think, might have missed one or two). Maybe I'd want to open one one day? However unlikely that might be. Just saying. >_>
(Yes I hoard chests. Opened a few but I still keep them all. I have 126 chests in my inventory. Earliest I got is 5 of #5 Treasure of the Red Mist.)
