unless you tell us what you like/want there is not much we can tell you since learning new heroes is important as well. I tried randoming vs bots and "humans". I liked Tree since I can smash face and he isn't mana dependent. I guess I can't farm very well yet so supports with a lot of bursts or good disables for me. Mek holders, ranged preferably. I didn’t play Dota Prime, but had a lot of League under my belt when I started. I cut my teeth on Earthshaker, Lich and Shadow Shaman for supports. They are pretty straight forward. I played Magnus as mid and it worked out well, since I only had one job. Lifestealer is a pretty forgiving carry to starts, since he has a built in heal. Oh cool. The mechanics in DotA 2 and WC3 DotA are the same but I can't seem to replicate my old stuff to the new game. Maybe I'm getting too slow or just because, everything is so shiny. Before I could go Eul's on Shadow Shaman, ward trap the hero and if my 6 charges run out, I can upgrade it into a Ginsoo's. Now, I can't seem to ward trap heroes. Use shackle -> shift queue wards = perfect ward trap. Does that really work for all sizes of heroes? I've read it in a forum just recently but since I just found that wards are more fragile now than they used to... Well escaping is easier.
Should do. I've never found any problem with it. You just have to basically judge clicking exactly in the right spot to ward trap them is all.

Practice makes perfect then. Thanks guys!

ward trapping isnt too hard in dota2, I didnt play dota1 so i dont know if its easier or harder. If you have trouble ward trapping a moving hero then just chicken them and then trap them or shift-queue after a shackle, both of those work great.

So I just sold some useless items on the steam market (steam trading cards, description tag, the diretide 2h battlebonuses) and made over $4 instantly, like within an hour. o_O I had no idea people were actually willing to pay money for that stuff.

I could be wrong - I haven't played SS much lately.

It was harder in 1 because the graphics weren't as smooth and thus you needed quite a bit of practice to know how to trap people on different terrain (especially ramps). Now, it's just about getting the timing right (maybe half a second delay, which means you have to lead it a bit if the hero is moving.

There are items worth more than the cap of single transactions on the steam store ($400)

I think Lich is a great hero for someone who is having their first ever game of Dota/MOBA/whatever. It allows them to learn the very basics of Dota, such as 'go here to lane', 'last hit creeps to get gold', 'this is called a gank', 'this is a push', etc, without having to focus on exactly what each and every spell does, how to combo them well, how to manage mana, etc. Baby steps and all that.
That said I certainly think he's a boring hero to play after two or three games of that, and newbies should quickly switch to other more engaging heroes such as Lion/Lina/etc.
Another reason I think Lich is good for starting is the confidence it can give a new player, which encourages him or her to play more. Even if you suck at last hitting, you can stay reasonably close in levels to the opponent due to your instant deny, which also let's you learn the basics of harassing with spells and autoattacks. And then for the midgame, which is where noobs really suck at, you can be late to a teamfight but still do well because of Chain Frost's inherent cleanup ability. Finally, for the lategame, they can still retain that "I'm still useful to my team" confidence because of armor and counter-initiating with CF.

Maybe if they run straight they can avoid it but if they turn they get trapped?

I could just be crazy though.

I never missed a ward trap with that, but I played few games of Rhasta.

Eul's Ward Trap is not the same in DotA 2. The reason is because DotA 1 Cyclone had a certain collision size, while the DotA 2 Cyclone has no collision size. This means you get something like this:
X X X X O X X X X DotA 1 - wards cast around a cyclone leave a space in the middle that the enemy unit falls into when the Cyclone ends. On the other hand:
X X X X X X X X DotA 2 - this or some variation where no space is created for the unit. The unit gets displaced when they land and there's no space for them. It essentially comes down to luck whether the unit ends up a space where they are trapped--sometimes they just get pushed outside.
As others have said though, you can shift-queue Shackle->Wards, so its not that big of a deal.

The number of card drops you get is capped by how much money you've spent on the game. If you don't buy anything in the DotA 2 Store, you only get 4 card drops max.

So what theyve essentially done is made it so people who dont care about "achievements" can profit from people who do care about "achievements"?
Am I reading that right? Or do Badges actually do something?
If that is the case I cant imagine a better way valve could have implemented it! FREE MONEY : )))

Hard to remember, I've played like 2 games of rhasta in my last 500 or so games.

You collect cards, make badge + items such as wallpapers for your steam account/emoticons based on the game, etc. Some people like collecting shit, so it's win-win. People that like to collect can collect, people that don't care get free money.

That's really clever by Valve, everyone wins. Valve wins the most tho, because they take a cut out of every market transaction. And even then, the money doesn't go anywhere, the only way to spend steam wallet is giving it to Valve again. :D
Anyway, I bought 2 keys from the money I got and opened a rare PA weapon and a rare pudge hook. I have 5 different fucking PA weapons now and I was perfectly fine using a deathwielder before... I didn't even know there were so many of them, I don't want any more. I'm not mad tho, opening boxes is fun.
