Tournament 1v1 is all about the mastery of the minutiae that go specifically into the tournament 1v1 format. Fundamentals go a long way, but at a level where fundamentals will be pretty close, it's all about mastery of those minutiae. The CTY-Mushi 1v1 recently demonstrated this pretty clearly. Mushi was no lesser to CTY in fundamentals, but in terms of those things that you just do in 1v1s, Mushi came out behind (e.g. choosing Phase Boots instead of Tranquils when Tranquils are abusively strong in that format, not sending clarities as aggressively as CTY, finishing wand first to clean up slots rather than dropping a branch for later and getting just Stick+Wraith Band). Dendi's fundamentals are very good, but seeing as there hasn't been any significant tournament 1v1 recently in the West, it's up in the air whether he will do well here. | ||
