Spectre is meant to build tanky with very few damage items, how can treads be the only item that gives you HP? Where's your vanguard, or just vit booster for that matter? What about heart?

just played cm going 4/4 on first two skills first lol
why don't players max out these 2 first before aura? is the 0.5 regen really that huge over the difference in skill dmg?

Depends on your lineup - with a lot of spammers, who have stuns and nukes themselves the aura helps tremendously. If the amount of spellcasters is low, leaving aura out is better, so CM becomes a monster in early ganks.

If your team is mana dependant its pretty good, remember that its a global aura, so it will help at all times(except when you are dead), also, while Frostbite is extremly powerfull at level 1, its scaling isn't that good. You can go 4/4 if your team doesn't need that much mana.

I get aura quickly because I get flamed hard if I don't lol. I think iv seen navi skip the aura though, so I cant argue. .5 global mana regen is pretty damn good though. Some heroes just fucking love having that aura around.

why do people call ironwood branches GG branches??? im so confused.
@konadora: bc having kills on cm do nothing good. she is still 1 shot material into mid game despite how much farm she has and agic will be nagated once BKB is on the field. There were a lot of cases where CM max QW in competitive(mainly bc team has mana boots and dont need that much mana) but personally i prefer maxing nova, 1 level frost bit and all aura. The reason is frost bite will simply break if the target takes dmg so lv it up for duration is lot more useless.

Also there is no need to go strictly 4 in nova, 1 in bite and max aura, you can stay at 2 points in aura and just go for max bite then if it is the better option, its quite situational really.

The name "gg branch" predates the caption.
EDIT: And yes, CM builds are 100% dependent on lineups and your role.

Not like it would matter at all.

IIRC the reasoning was something like "if you see someone with them on the other team, you should gg because they know what they're doing" (this was back in the early days of DotA when everyone sucked).

I don't agree with that. Just because she'll still be weak in teamfights later on doesn't mean that early gold can't have huge effect on the game.
If CM gets FB gold and can get Boots->Phases/Urn a few minutes earlier, she puts insane pressure on all the lanes. 1-2 kills on CM can turn into more gold than the kills themselves are worth on your carries because of how much farming space you create for them with your gank threat.

SingSing and Moonmeander playing together.
Oh god.

They were actually called GG branches (Not ironwood branch)
Actually now I'm not certain of this and its probably incorrect but -.- They were gg branches way before I read that caption

FYI, attack speed does very little for practical DPS early and mid-game, it might boost theoretical DPS, but in practice you'll be auto attacking -> running -> auto attacking -> running -> auto attacking -> running since very few times will you be standing still just wacking on someone unless your team has heavy CC.
And the two of you might disagree, but phase is the most common pick-up, and is what is seen in 90% of the cases on competitive spectre games.
And using a 6.67 game as an example is a pretty bad example, that is 7 versions ago, plenty of things have changed.
I was looking at the games at the International, it's hard to find several games with Spectre more recent than that and it has a nice website to quickly check the endgame items.
5 times Spectre had treads 1 time Spectre had phase (Kuroky in GG.net vs Nevo) 1 time Spectre had BoT (That ridiculous 90min iG vs EHOME opening game, not sure what kind of boots they first bought, not even the replay is avaible.
It happened a while ago, but you I don't see how it affects wether Spectre gets Phase or Treads that much.
About the CM discussion, I don't get how maxing a disable means you are trying to get kills for yourself. You obviously are not the best player in the team to get the kill, but it's not like you are stealing it, if you got it because of the 70 dps of frostbite you probally just got lucky. Plus, more money for you may mean better support power and more money for your whole team, it's not like items on CM are useless.

gg branches because they're so good, basically saying it's an overpowered item for its cost.. now only if we can get infinite item slots..
