Was such a close match though I actually thought we won and put 'CLUTCH CITY' in all chat. I check my game history and have a loss staring me in the face... Guess I was too busy pinging the ancient while trying to defend ours (for some reason 2 out of the 4 teammates i had were attacking the rax instead of T4 towers)

So TPL grandfinals apparently reached 100k concurrents, half of which being the Chinese viewers. That's pretty surprising to me, I gotta say. I guess the Chinese casters must have done a great job promoting the tournament.

That's a pretty self-destructive attitude though because then like 0-11 supports say they were just doing shit for the carry like #makingspace when in reality they were just caught out of position in the vicinity of the carry and got blown up. You also definitely don't want to be doing that shit on rubick since he actually scales with items fairly well and you don't want to be throwing away your gold that casually.

But yeah, that's still pretty surprising. I think they've had Chinese casters for the entire tournament though, which isn't the case for most western tournaments.

If you can save your carry by sacrificing yourself as rubick, it's worth it in most situations.
Dying doesn't automatically mean you make space, but making space can result in death.

That isn't want I said at all. I'm saying that when a support throws themselves to the wolves to save an out of position carry, they get no love. Sometimes you take that hit for the team and let your carry get away. A 5 slot Rubic is a thankless job, since you don't get much farm and are on ward duty the entire game. I have said more than once to friends complaining about lack of sentry wards "my god, buy your own detection or stop hogging the currier. Why don't you buy dust with one of the 3 waves you just ate up?"
Of course, then I go buy sentries, because I want to win.

Two different discussions here. Your point is just about a bad support not knowing what effective use of his hero is and thinking he is doing well when he isn't, Plansix's point is about players taking appropriate amount of credit/blame; a well played support can be just as influential as a carry, but doesn't get those fun numbers attached.

As a support, I like to think of the hard carry as my child. At first they can't even farm without my help and I sack all my time and money into keep them alive. Then they grow up and get strong enough to go out into the world on their own. I tell them to be careful, watch out for ganks and try to make a place for themselves. I go off and focus on making up all the money I sunk into my carry and giving them space to grow. Then, after I am old, can no longer hold my own in battle and my time in the spotlight has passed, my carry returns, having fully bloomed into the death blossom I alway dream about and brings down the enemy team with the largest right clicks dota has to offer.
Being a support and raising a carry is a hard, thankless job.
