and even more, whether or not twitch could PROVE who was doing viewer boosting, if that is what is happening.

Though I wonder even if Riots official LCS stream were to break twitch TOS whether twitch would shut them down, given how much business riot gives twitch. and even more, whether or not twitch could PROVE who was doing viewer boosting, if that is what is happening. I highly doubt riot needs stream money and needs to artificially boost it.

But I don't see how boosting "idle viewer" count does anything to help that. The only thing that matters to most people is the peak viewers. I mean there's shady shit, but then there's just pointless and conspiracy theories. Afaik their stream is turned off during the down time.

If 25000 extra viewers are there 24/7 it boosts peak viewers. it essentially would raise the "0" line up to 25000 instead of 0. I'd be illogical to think that riot would have bots watching their between day coverage, but if its always, its always. besides the graphs have near identical falloff post game as other games, so thats not indicative of thousands of users logging in post game. it's not like riot's stream is like OGN's stream and shows previously recorded games during off hours sometimes, and certainly the graph doesn't appear to support that either.

If this was the case you'd expect the graph to mimic the peak hours during off hours while restreams. while it looks completely different, and nearly identical to the graphs of the other games off hours. and even if it didn't mimic the peak hours shapes, you'd expect it to look significantly different from other games off hours, when it looks nearly identical.

If it's restreamed, the viewers are most likely not English speakers, so there're not gonna a lot of people watching it like peak hours. You kind of underestimate the local streaming culture. There're a lot of local websites that will link the twitchtv stream to their pages, and everytime somebody access the website, the stream will most likely start and count it as a viewer. I mean, pages like LegendsBR.com having twitchtv right on the front page, and pages like op.gg/stream list a bunch of LoL streams from twitchtv and afreeca, so everytime somebody access the website, it's normal that the stream viewcount is active. I personally know some of my country's websites that also designs to have twitchtv on frontpage and stuffs. Is that Riot fault? I doubt so. It's the effect that will happen when you are too big and everybody wants a piece of the pie.

It's the effect that will happen when you are too big and everybody wants a piece of the pie. Like i said if there was something inherently different with the stream or streaming culture of League of legends, you would expect the graph to look fundamentally different during non peak hours than dota 2/sc2 during non peak hours. the graph of LoL looks like the X axis shifted upward roughly 20k-25k units NOT fundamentally different in its shape. The explanations for that are a larger base of people (AKA people are inherently more likely to idle if they watch league than other games, or an artificial boost of some kind). but yeah the first one is the simpler explanation and i'd have to do quite abit of research to ever come to the conclusion of the second option, and even then i'd have to have an audit or riot and all their publicity firms in order to prove/disprove that they were involved in such a thing. so TL;DR that data look weird, but dunno why, and can't say why without vastly more data.
