I don't see any connection at all, this all seems just like they told EG and TL "Promote the fuck out of this and we'll give you money." And somehow they're trying to make it look like we should care "in the name of esports." Think of it this way then: Papa johns is going to spend their money to do two things: promote a cause (Whatever the cause is) and sell more pizzas. you can't stop the second one, but we can direct the first one. If papa johns views the promotion as successful it may become a yearly promotion, giving money to various esports groups every year to do the promotion.

I mean, distributing promo codes could be done in any community, I don't see how that has anything to do with esports, it just feels like milking loyal fans. Why don't they sponsor a tournament, or a team? Or anything, really...

Because when you first take a step into a new field as a business. you don't just close your eyes and leap. you test the ground first. if there is no money to be made from esports marketing, they won't continue to put money into it. These sort of double sided promotions are incredibly common in advertising. i expose you if you expose me, we both profit for little to no early investment, then both sides find out if its lucrative, if it is and they get a good return on the investment, they invest more and more. Dominos started its venture into sports by selling pizzas at baseball and football games, and now they put their name on the stadium for millions a year.

Well, part of the issue is that if this is a successful campaign, it will promote from other organizations that typically aren't associated with esports to become more interested in sponsoring teams + tournaments.

They charge out the ass for owning a franchise, and misrepresent the healthiness of their food. but they are a pretty socially forward company. the consumer pays for that forwardness with increased costs though. The important thing to know about the Pizza industry is that all the products are roughly identical. the only separation are the slight recipe variations, and the advertisement. these types of industries are the ones that spend the most money in the world on advertising. Getting these companies into an ad war over our demographic only benefits us.
