mm is pretty good guys i take all this back just played against a tryhard stack that went luna bane lesh offensive tri against my antimage and I (venge), then our mag lost mid really hard and game was over in 13mins rofl i wish you could get some warning when you get a tryhard stack in mm! Stop calling people tryhard when you had Antimage and Magnus on your team. People play their best to win, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Tryhard is possibly the worst "insult" in the history of gaming. "Oh god he's winning, what a fucking tryhard right guys??"
Sorry let me clarify this
I have zero issues with tryhards in mm, absolutely zero, I love games where both teams tried their hardest.I just should have payed closer attention to their picks and told my friends to adjust accordingly. We picked a solid lineup for a pub but there was no way for use to compete with their laning, we had to put veno solo vs sylla just so we could pull our rubick top to setup a ghetto ass tri (venge/am/rubick not that good :S). Plus the guy who picked mag isn't our usual mag player. If we had gone all out proper laning, picks and players from the word go we would have had a chance, but seeing as it was just a AP pub, we didn't.
+ Show Spoiler +
edit: I also agree that a "weak" definition of tryhard is abusing AP to get impossible lineups (ie they wouldn't be allowed to get them in cm). The stack we went up against definitely didn't do that, although I might have banned bear if they hadn't done it in the first three picks in a hypothetical cm mode game.

Playing to win is different from being a tryhard. Someone playing to win and compete will queue up with 5 people into team matchmaking and play captain's mode. Someone playing to win, but not to compete will queue up with 5 people for all pick and instalock a ridiculously strong team.
Most of the time, when people are using tryhard as an insult, it's the latter. Teams taking advantage of matchmaking to stomp solo queue players in a complete lack of honest competition.
most of the time when i see people use the word try hard, its when they just died to a gank.

I guess I should clarify that for the most part I agree that tryhard is a ridiculous insult. I just get where people are coming from when they get sick of playing against 5 stacks/op heroes in AP. Not the biggest deal though, dota is fun.

if you want a "fair game" thats by your own definition. you can pick some """balanced""" hero and play to have fun. you cant get mad when someone else doesnt agree with some invisible standard that you just set and wants to win that sends a naix lesh sd into your safe lane and owns you. to an extent, you let that happen. never get upset because someone elses goals are different from yours and they used different methods to achieve that.
there will always be people take advantage of the best tools and strategy thats available cuz they want to win it really has nothing to do with putting in more effort then usual, and once you get that you will get better
Your analogy sucks. If you want to use the NBA, it should be like this:
Both captains are able to assemble a team of 5 dream-team players, but it is first come first serve. One team already knows which 5 players he wants and picks them immediately. The other captain had no idea and has to think about it first.
Even that analogy sucks, but it's closer to how Dota2 AP is when you are soloing against a stack. In your analogy, both captains would go for the best players, but they pick their team by alternating. Which Dota2 mode does that sound like to you? There is no form of sports drafting that is done by one person going "I call dibs on these 5 players!" especially not when the other team is not nearly as organized.
If the "tryhard" team really had different goals from me, they would queue for TMM instead of AP so that they could compete instead of stomp disorganized pubbers.
Again, there is a difference between a group of individuals trying to craft a good team so that they can win a game of Dota, and a group of individuals taking advantage of the MM system to prey on solo queue pubbers when they would get a real competition in TMM or just by queueing CM.

Which is why I said people use it the wrong way. Someone playing well or being smart in game isn't being a tryhard that's just being a good player.

I agree with your definition, but people really do not apply the latter most of the time.
Almost overwhelmingly, people cry "tryhard" when they lose to superior coordination or just straight-up suck, and then want to belittle OpFor for being better. It comes from the same place as "omg get a life" and "I could beat you if I tried but I don't want to". For that reason, I treat a person using "tryhard" the same way I treat players who make those excuses.
In the rare situation that "tryhard" is actually appropriate, I would complain about them stacking against pubs in the first place.

Everyone tries to have fun. Playing serious and winning is fun for some people. Losing to people playing seriously is not fun for some people. And some people don't care and try and enjoy it regardless.

Care to elaborate? Usually when someone posts stuff like this, you have most likely missed the whole point.

I mean, what happened? Why the post of EE and the report system?

well few days ago there was an argument over the report system, can't remember what all the points were but some people seem to believe it's hard to make a new account with 10min mail, also someone said it's the same shit because you end up playing with nubs regardless.Well difference is some of these people play for the first time and you get to ruin their games instead of playing lpq. You being an asshat to people from your mmr is your own prerogative but it ain't a nice introduction to dota when you get a guy spamming "your all fukin bad gimme mid nubs" I mean it might be a true representation of how a lot of people are it just kinda seems random to punish people but not really.

I'm sorry but there are definitely try hards in dota - while the game is competitive, it's also just a game - yet you see the nerds picking the ez nub heroes like nyx (seriously.. you don't pick nyx unless your a try hard noob)
They are labelled try hards because it is the equivalent of cheese in sc2.. Strategies that are much harder to counter than to execute.
While cheese in sc2 was generally accepted, nobody liked versing it and nobody respected it.
I don't cry when I see noob picks, but I definitely think you're bad

I mean, there has to be a better term you could come up with.

Does anyone know if the latest patch fixed the tmm bug that makes your find match button disappear? ;;
|
can we just report him and move on that guys not even worth replying to
|
Right before the patch I queued up against a team that went Nyx mid/rubick, jugger, veno tri bot/treant solo top. It was a fitting end to the old match making system. My team was like NP, AM, Weaver, Silencer and TC.
