Playing to win is different from being a tryhard. Someone playing to win and compete will queue up with 5 people into team matchmaking and play captain's mode. Someone playing to win, but not to compete will queue up with 5 people for all pick and instalock a ridiculously strong team. Most of the time, when people are using tryhard as an insult, it's the latter. Teams taking advantage of matchmaking to stomp solo queue players in a complete lack of honest competition. | ||

would you go for the players that are on the clippers or some shit no name team or would you take lebron james and karl malone if you want a "fair game" thats by your own definition. you can pick some """balanced""" hero and play to have fun. you cant get mad when someone else doesnt agree with some invisible standard that you just set and wants to win that sends a naix lesh sd into your safe lane and owns you. to an extent, you let that happen. never get upset because someone elses goals are different from yours and they used different methods to achieve that. there will always be people take advantage of the best tools and strategy thats available cuz they want to win it really has nothing to do with putting in more effort then usual, and once you get that you will get better | ||

The one situation in which it's barely valid is when a stack abuses AP's lack of bans to get 5x mag/nyx/kotl/ls/bat et al. That, and that alone, might be playing against the spirit of the mode. Even then, the bigger problem is the fact that 5-stacks can be matched against random pub collections in the first place. Trilaning is not "tryhard", one player picking a top-tier hero is not "tryhard", a random pub picking a few strong lanes is not "tryhard". Beating you is not "tryhard". This is a competetive gaming site. I feel like dota forums forget that sometimes. | ||
