Nyx was bad support until Icefrog changed his Manaburn and more importantly his Spiked Carapace after TI2.
Also, his first skill stun traveled longer than Lion stun. This has been fixed however recently
1.Could instagib any support hero. 2.Vendetta as a good initiation or scouting tool. Make teams to buy Sentry to counter him. 3. 5 man stun with the third skill?

Even in a fairly decent game he will have a hard time going for Hex as opposed to other strong mid solos such as QoP and Puck (or even Rubick in TI2). On top of that he is really squishy. Putting him mid seems a bit of a high risk medium reward kind of deal (shoutout to Fear), because even if he does well I think other strong mids would contribute just as much if not more, on top of being able to farm gamebreaking items later on.
On the other hand, I can see him work out as a support. His slow has retarded range and is quite strong on level 1, silence is very strong as well, and his spells have good range in general. Not sure if it would be worth it over other top tier supports though.
I mean, zoning ability in a trilane isn't the only reason you pick supports.
All the hero does is level/item dependent damage. What do you expect the hero to accomplish while underfarmed/underleveled?
Focus down key heroes in early-mid game with maxed silence and ult, initiate ganks from huge distance. Yeah, I guess other top supports bring more to the table, but so do other solos.
We're pigeonholing heroes into the current meta instead of looking at their abilities, strengths and weaknesses and generating a win-scenario from that.
SM has incredibly high range, good solo kill potential as long as he is even on levels, and he has a strong disabling silence/slow.
SM also has serious dependencies on mana and levels.
On a team where the theory is to push at 20 minutes with 5 incredibly powerful zoning heroes such that the enemy team can't initiate because the range would kill them before they could even connect, SM would be very good.
In the current meta, his problems when dealing with ganks and no good flash farming skill puts him behind current favorites that fill similar roles, such as puck/qop.

Actually, the Impale travel distance issues have been a huge mess. First it was too long. Then they over-fixed it and made it slightly too short, and now they made it too long again:

I think it has more to do with the commitment Jeyo has to the game. I am pretty sure Fear and Jeyo moving to AZN EG lair simply means that they are dropping everything for dota2 right now and there are might be some interest conflict with the other 3 players, especially Demon who live right in LA. Once you committing to practicing hard, its just the matter of time before the result gona come. Jeyo has a solid skill set which he showed us in TI2, i think its the musical role in EG that is screwing with his practice.

Mind sharing a scenario?
SM has ridiculously solo killing potential. 1.A nuke that has does dmg according to his Int X number. 2.A slow single target projectile that project a small Aoe slow upon hitting the target and has a very long range 3.Silence and takes more magical dmg for 3 secs. 4.A small Aoe insane dmg.
But If you look at his skillset, SM was made for solo-killing heroes. Not meant for teamfights/split push/pushing/flash farm which is what top level Dota is all about. That is his main issue.
That's why he will never make it into top CM level games.

The good news is a lotta pro teams don't even play top CM level games, so he'll probably do fine there.

SM has much more significant mana problems than the other two. I understand the rational and that much makes sense, but I'm not sure he can support it?
Well, for one thing IMO skywrath doesn't really wan't to be close enough to the "front line" in teamfights to mek them.
Plus the mana issues since he can't even cast all 4 abilities once + mek at 16 without MORE than mana boots. And he'd like to keep spamming bolt on a 2 second cooldown.
Plus the farm issues because he really just has no serious way to get gold fast apart from killing enemy heroes.

Anyone with an arcane can support it.
He can support it, but he can't really support his other spells fully - and if you are picking this hero, you are picking him to spam his spells / nukes. Mek inhibits that, and thus inhibits SM as a hero overall. I don't think its realistic.

yes and it wasnt even close, SM was 100% useless, didnt really harass much in the trilane and couldnt do anything to stop them from killing them in the lane They just got destroyed....
