Yeah, I agree. He has a lot of knowledge but as a player I don't really know...
Hopefully everything goes good for him and mouz indeed gets to TI3 but it would be a rough road for them!

^I think it's just people reporting randomly when they lose.

It's kinda easy to abuse this shit though. Valve needs to implement something else.

TPL season 5 announced with 15k instead of 10k and also a supposed shortened format within 2 months. (although the last TPL was only 2.5 months, not like 5 months which some seem to believe) Norton sponsoring. http://thepremierleague.eu/the-premier-league-welcome-norton-by-symantec-as-an-official-partner/

Valve just needs to straight up remove it. I don't care at all if people are spouting shit all game, I'll mute them myselves if I want. I'd rather being able to have the option to talk to them and actually coordinate stuff. If they don't then screw them and they get a mute.

Also it makes me scared to talk shit all game in all chat for fun . Which is a good past time for me and friends. Even though we continue to anyway none of us have actually got chat bans yet except for the guy in our group who is the most mannered...

There's been 3 quite big announcements in the past 2 hours or so.

http://www.curse.com/news/dota-2/48217-team-brackets-announced-curse-dota-2-invitational
The $10k Curse invitational details announced. Aysee and Merlini casting. Teams are TL, Dignitas, Mouz, Empire, DD, Na'Vi, RoX.KIS, EG. The format is just going to be a double elimination and the whole thing played over 3 weekends. Should be good, I think. I like that it's not yet another league style thing like tpl, starladder, d2l, etc., but just a double elim bracket. No Alliance and Fnatic is interesting, too.

http://www.ibuypower.com/info/eSports.aspx
BTS partners up with iBUYPOWER. don't know what that will mean. GodZ said on reddit "as they [iBUYPOWER] are based in North America, the best part for us is this means we can have more NA focused content", I hope that means BTS will sart doing their own events. This could be just what the NA scene needs, awesome!

http://thepremierleague.eu/the-premier-league-welcome-norton-by-symantec-as-an-official-partner/
TPL partners with Norton. I think they ran the previous season without a sponsor just of twitch money and tournament tickets, so this could be a good change... Next season will be $15k prizepool and 62 matches over 2 months. That's I think borderline between being fine and being too spread out as a tournament, hopefully it will be good.

Crazy week for Dota.... teams reshuffling, TI3 announced, all sorts of shit happening! :D

Well, good for TPL but...

Yuck, norton/symantec lol.

PS $15K is really not a good enough prize pool imo. Like, If they sell 5K tickets @ $6 per ticket, assuming valve takes 1/2 the ticket proceeds they just made the ENTIRE PRIZE POOL and that isn't even counting stream views, sponsorship money etc.

Although I guess they probably have to pay casters and stuff, but still. Plus their tickets are likely to cost way more than $6 since i'm sure they will add a courier or something, and I'm sure they will sell more than 5,000 tickets.

As for 'prize per week' it's more than D2L, Defense, Dreamhack Inviational. Obviously how many games you have to play is more important, but I don't think it's spread out at all.

Valve takes 75% I believe. Plus they have to pay courier creator.

~

I don't know what people are watching if they think this is somehow bad. It's better than every tournament in the west except for StarLadder which only takes like a month, and StarLadder you have to fly yourself to Kiev as well.

I don't think the prize pools in Dota are high enough either, but if you're complaining about this you should complain about every tournament.

I think Valve takes way more than 50% of the ticket money. 2GD said that they sold like 4.8k tickets and made $5 000 from it.
Although the DH Inv had the cheap tickets without a courier, I guess the event organizer should have more money when the ticket is more expensive with a courier in a bundle.

The problem isn't that tournaments existing - the problem is an over-saturation of small tournaments with smaller prizepools in the West.

Consolidation at some point will need to be a priority for growth.

Hmmm, valve taking more than 50% seems hella scammy lol.

I still think that $15k is kinda chump change for a 2 month tourney when its split 5-ways and the tourney organizers can make money off of in-game tickets

I want to say Valve takes 75% of the profits as that's what they take for cosmetic items. I'm pretty sure there was a video in which ZeroGravity mentioned a profit of $0.25 for each sold pennant, meaning it applies to those as well.

I'm all for increasing organizer profits from tickets, though.

That's not how this will play out. You can't just join tournaments and expect them to make enough to not only support everyone still and add all that much to prize pools.

What will happen is we will get more tournaments like tpl/curse/dhi/d2l/defense/weplay/rdl and then the organizations that can attract bigger sponsors or make more out of their ticket sales will be the ones that get all the good teams.

Well, The Defense 3 was $20k for full 4 months and D2L was $10k for almost exactly the same amount of time. Although one might say that these were the "previous generation" tournaments and the next ones should be way better, which I hope for.

As for Valve taking 75% of the money from sales... honestly I can't tell if it's fair or not, there's no precedent for it at all.

I guess I'm not necessarily saying that, but I kind of feel like we are going to hit a point where there are going to be too many tournaments, and it won't be healthy for the scene (I feel like something similar happened to SC2.)

The growth of tournaments I feel is disproportionate with the growth of viewers.

Huh.

See, on one hand I want to say "Valve are pioneering this system that is generating money for tournaments that no other company or game has done. Its a completely unique source of income that tournament organizers should be very grateful for. Its like free money for them".

On the other hand, I was mad at The Defense 3 and JD for the silly ticket price ($10 If I recall correctly). Now that I know they only were charging $2.50 for what they did and valve tacked on the rest (so to speak) I feel kinda cheated by valve. 50% seems steep but fair to me. 75% is highway robbery, even if it is still just "free money" for the tournaments.

I kinda feel the same way about the content creators tbh. A 50/50 split seems steep but fair. 75/25 valves way feels kinda dirty.

Well from the tournaments point of view thats 2.50 is a lot more than zero
