That's interesting tho because there are a lot of tournaments incoming. G-1, the Perfect World + Gamefy League (ACE most likely), DreamHack and I think Starladder. We will see tho. Solo ranked ![]()

Valve shouldn't take it away from the people who wants it only because some people don't like it or apparently are afraid of some random numbers on the internet.

It's not that easy because once you have a "ranked" mode, "normal" games are seen as second-class. Having a ranked mode in the game fundamentally affects how the community views normal games.

I'm kind of split about it - though I'm 90% positive Valve would keep stats / rank invisible or done in an intelligent way.

Absolutely this, it's true in LoL and all the other games I've played where there are two separate queues for ranked and unranked.

We already psuedo have this win normal / high / vh, anyways. And there is a semi-division between bot players and regular players (a lot of bot players i've met are afraid to make the move over). I think to some extent, there was always be a division. I'm not sure what's best.

I'm not sure what's best. It's not a division of skill. It's misconstruing a division in "seriousness" as a division of skill. Which is exactly what you're doing saying that the normal/high/vh division is the same thing as a normal/ranked division.

I'm not saying that - I'm saying that there is a perception among that as players. People will claim they are "VH SKILL" and use this to whatever means they desire. I just suppose I'm saying that in terms of the "People who claim they are really high MMR or whatever". Just look at the team recruitment thread. It already exists, albeit to a smaller extent. I'm not saying anything much about the ensuing division between normal / ranked. I don't have much of an opinion on that.

Maybe people should grow up a little to not care what a random number on the internet means. Who, in his right mind would care if you are a "bronze scum" in a game? Or even worst, people who gets offended by someone who called them a "bronze scum". All that shit is literally beyond me and like I said before, will never understand it. But don't get me wrong, I respect the ones who don't want it because apparently they had a bad experience in LoL or HoN.

If Valve finds a comfortable solution behind the "bronze scum" talking in the report system, I don't really see this as a problem. The question I think involves attracting casual players, attracting competitive players, making the two mix together well, and encouraging casual players to be interested in becoming / learning about competitive players. Valve has a lot of vested interest in the competitive scene of Dota2, and is trying to create a business model that helps the competitive scene grow naturally, and find ways to assist / profit from that happening. They have a difficult task on their hands.

The existence of a ranked queue has a real impact on the quality, type, and number of games people will get in a non-ranked queue solely because of how the community as a whole perceives the queue as being second-class. The point being you can't just say "don't play ranked if you don't like it", because even if they choose to not play ranked and don't care how they are perceived, the division STILL has an impact on the quality of the normal games they're in.

It's already a massive jump for casual/new players to go from bot games to mm. On the positive side, having a solo mmr can make matchmaking against stacks more balanced. There is already a hidden way of tracking a players MMR equivalent (does valve use trueskill? Can't remember to be honest).
