Huh, it's a high level pub. Don't need to tell people who to kill first they know by now. If not then they playing at a level they shouldn't be.
The only time it communication becomes really important is later on in the game where people can have drastically different views on what should be done. Earlier just need to draw arrows , ping and say smoke if you just want to smoke gank with your support then draw route etc. Unless the level of play has gotten drastically worse since I stopped playing as much pub dota that's pretty much what used to happen in high level pubs. Rest of the talking was mixture of trashtalk and joking.

Ping is sufficient, most of the time, an experienced player will understand what you want with just a ping. If I ping someone who is far out and alone, he will look at his map, realise there is three enemies missing and will back on his own. You can throw in the "b" for the full on effect it's the same. If I ping an ennemy, he will look at his map, realize I'm coming to gank and will act accordingly. The only place where one does have to provide additional explanation is when pinging forest to signal you saw someone. Or you want to tell your team that someone picked up a rune.
Push, gank, back, roshan, and most of the general "commands" you can give your team can be given easily enough through pings.
EDIT : ^ What he said.

It's a fun function but I can't help but laugh when someone blurts out "Stun now ! " in the chat wheel
The obvious advantage of the chat wheel is that it's translated into the Client's language.

Since SEA server was down. I tried playing on USW. Now i know why many people hate russians :/

I think communication is a lot more important in lower level games since people haven't had the experience to know what to do in most situations or what people expect of them in most situations.

I totally agree with what numy just said. newer players need to be directed around a bit more because you cant count on them to have strong decision making.

Enough said. I think this sums it up. If you think this doesn't happen often I don't know what to say.

Well you haven't said anything so far so..

If you seriously think that even in high level pubs people don't disagree on something and that doesn't require chat to resolve it, I don't know what to say. Pings cannot possibly communicate everything you need. Sometimes you need to say shit so that everyone is on the same page if you're trying to win; not everyone can understand Morse Code DotA.
And yes, this happens even on page 1; EE is sometimes on a different page than IXDL Pubstars like Murs, so saying that pinging is enough for communication in a pub is a load of crap.

Care to give a few examples?
Do you go into a debate in the middle of the game with random people to decide what's the best course of action?
I've never, because it's 1) a waste of time, 2) people have different views of what is needed to be done in specific situations and discerning if those views are correct/incorrect in the nick of time is useless.
I only mentioned pinging solely because you don't need much besides that to express general stuff like, "push bot, go rosh, smoke!...)
Communication is a very important part of DotA, but pub dota is a bunch of random people. Pings do everything that's needed.

I finally to play some Dota! I played with a friend who is in high and his friends who are in high. First game was -AR where I randomed Skywrath mage. Can't say I like him that much as a support, especially not when supporting a morphling.
Anyways, after that we got an intentional feeder game where AM and Visage called each other faggots the whole time, followed by three straight abandons...
But then we got to play an actual game that was around my skill level! My skill Magi did pretty well.
Let's just say I remember why I play dota, and I can't wait to graduate in two weeks so I can be home where I can actually play it online :D

The Great kuroky said that players that understand doto need to only ping, nothing less, nothing more.

That's reason he won every competition recently while the Chinese, who like to communicate alot during the game, failed to achieve anything, right?

That's why KKY and Na'vi are always on the same page lately right? Not. KKY and Na'vi are not always on the same page due to language barriers. EE was cut recently due to language barriers too (which I'm sure was to a degree one of the reasons, although not completely the main reason).

Love how we went from talking about pub dota to now talking about competitive dota as if it's at all related. Anything to flame I guess.

No one is flaming anyone, I just disagree with the notion that pinging is all you need in pubs. Sometimes people need clarification on what you want and you can't just express it with pings.

He brought Kuroky, a competitive player, as if Kuroky were a God or some king of unfallable entity. He wasn't. And even if he had been, that would have had nothing to do with pub.

Firstly not every response is directed at you. Look at the post above yours, that is pretty much flaming. Secondly noone is saying talking isn't needed at all, all they are saying is that for a lot of the time you can get by without talking so the constant complaints about non-English seems completely out of proportion. Also a lot of people here have played these "even page 1 games" so it's not like we're just pulling this opinion out of our ass.

Was the original comment about pub dota? If so then I don't see why talking about his competitive playing when he IS a great pub player is appropriate. Don't know enough to suddenly start flaming an individual. Superstartran previously brought up EE and noone jumped into flame him. There's no need for it, it brings nothing of worth to the decision. If you don't agree then you say why you don't agree.

Sometimes in mid to upper level games people will complain because communication is even more important. That's why you see a disproportionate amount of complaining about non-native language speakers.
That being said, in the highest level of brackets you could possibly get away with only pings when winning. If you're behind though, it requires a ton of communication.
