As long as it's a temporary phase and not permanent, so China will be "cut off" of the rest of the Dota2 community even after full release. Very good point. Makes you wonder how that would be solved.I'd hate to see broadcast from a broadcast.. Also how are Chinese teams going to play against non-chinese teams, without access to the main servers that everyone else is using. i.e "region lock" I guess we'll see how it turns out, hopefully good for the Chinese and to rest of us who want to watch their scene/teams.

We know PW doesn't want chinese people playing Valve's Dota 2, but we don't really know if there will be limitations on foreigners playing PW Dota. If anyone can create an account and they don't implement the kind of barriers Korea ussually does, I guess SEA teams can still play against the chinese, it will just have to happen in the chinese servers. How big of a problem that is depends on how bad the connection into mainland China would be, and I have no idea how that really works. For viewers, I guess there are good chances you won't be able to view chinese games in Valve's Dota 2 client, which kinda sucks. What would be really bad is if PW also limits acess from outside of China, but I would think everyone would work hard against something like that, because it really wouldn't help the game.

In my eyes steam would have been the bridge to connect the two communities, but seems like PW is on the best way to destroy that bridge so to say. It sounds weird move from Valve, but what if they don't have a choice? China is pretty damn controlled. So who knows if the move WP is doing is mandatory, not just to benefit themselves completely. Just look at World of Warcraft for example. Even if Valve wouldn't want that to happen, i doubt they would do anything to prevent it if thats not possible. They still get money that way.

To LAN or not to LAN? kuroky stated a lot of these points on sagans stream too. there are to many online cups and its not worth the time to participate. to many worthless matches.

I agree with this a lot - it makes matches overall less exciting, as it makes matches seem less important, teams prepare for them less (because of less time), and just the over saturation of games just makes the game seem less exciting. IMO, its the same problem SC2 has, but I have no idea if there is a solution behind this unless a unified body is created for dota.

Either someone/Valve or whatever changes this or DotA2 will always live under LoL's shadow when it comes to have offline tournaments. Keep in mind that this may change because "the game is not released yet" but... I don't know man.

Now let's see what DotA has. Starladder, DreamHack, Thor Open and The International if you don't count the Asian offline tournaments. To some extent, I agree with you, but I think both scenes (i haven't followed sc2 in a long time, so disregard my ignorance) would benefit from having larger online tournaments rather than a proliferation of smaller tournaments that teams are almost forced to play in. China and SCBW has consistent, large tournaments that have large (comparitive) prize pools (OSL, MSL, G1, GLeague), that allow for exciting, big games on a consistent basis and allows larger highlights of these players. I mean, there is a reason for these differences, but I just dont see the potential for this development in the West. There is a lot to say on this topic, but i'll keep it short.

Most organizers won't run two 5 man team events in the same genre at the same event without some sort of developer prodding without some dev bribery. Plus for NA/EU events, the majority of viewers are more than likely CIS, which are pretty worthless to Western organizations/sponsors.
