no, afaik SC2 had a subscription based pay to play in Korea, at least in the beginning

But... its not pay to play either. I mean it's just semantics but traditionally pay to play versus the alternative is paying Monthly to have access to the game at all like WoW vs f2p like Tera. You still buy WoW like sc2 but unlike WoW you don't need to keep paying to play sc2. Not to mention I don't see how Blizzard could have made sc2 free to play without butchering any competitive aspect to it by having things like buyable units or map unlocks. I really doubt it would be even remotely as successful with just buyable cosmetics like LoL.
I don't know much about it having a subscription in korea in the beginning but that seems pretty counterintuitive... then again it's Blizzard so who knows.

But since most users are playing in PC bangs and not on their home PC, that means it's effectively "subscription-based" for most of the relevant playerbase.

Servers down? I haven't been able to play for a bit.

So demon is the reason why EG has been loosing/been unsuccessful?

part of it, yes. He isn't a great player and his personality is caustic to a lot of players. I can't imagine how FeaR has carried him around for so long.

Problem is Maelk is still there. Don't think they will ever be successful as long as he's there. Unless he shapes up, stops taking so many breaks and actually improves.
|
inb4 someone trashes jeyo and bdiz. OPEN THE PLAYER BASH GATES, GO !
edit: BTW I think Maelk is a good player. I don't understand why he gets so much hate, but ehy, people need to find someone to hate, right ?
|
So is demon actually leaving or is this still all random speculation? I have a hard time checking sources at work...
PS I still say Jeyo is a lot of what holds EG back.

Jesus, just stop with the hate bullshit.

How come DeMoN is not one of their best players? What the hell are you people talking about..
|
I thought DeMon was always a pretty good player. I think i've made my opinion of other players on EG. DeMon isn't always great, but he's usually pretty good - I've liked his mid play.

Demon is good but a bit volatile.

Watching Draskyll's stream atm. He and Blitz have each their team fighting against each other. Lot's of smacktalk included. Very hilarious.
|
He's also abrasive and, to many of us, highly annoying. Skills were never in question. Just his bearing, personality, attitude, etc.
|
He's also really inconsistent. Sometimes he makes huge, gamewinning plays, but he's also responsible for more EG throws than any of their others. Maelk is fine, IMO, but he's too part-time for a team like EG. I respect that he's moving on with his life, and give him all the respect in the world for it, but if EG can find an equally-skilled US-based player willing to commit, they should switch.
