The cups were only for european teams. The top 4 American teams in the ESL league or something were going to be invited regardless. The exact thing should be on liquipedia. 16 teams. Top 12 from the cups (Europe). Top 4 from American division. | ||

It seems they had diferent qualifiers for american teams. The EMS A Series. I don't really know what that is, but it probally wasn't very interesting. They probally didn't want to deal with the issues of dealing with american teams playing with european teams in the cups or something. In the end I don't think it's a big deal. 12 slots for european teams is still a lot, all major teams should be able to participate, if they wanted to do so. | ||
