I'd love for a new strategy game in the Warcraft universe with heroes leveling up and stuff...
But honestly, Dota's probably the only game that's gonna be even close to filling that gap for a long time. I dunno starcraft was legitimately an awful game, Brood war was pretty damn good though. SC wasn't a bad game :/ I played it as much as HOMM3, it's just that BW turned out to be godlike, shouldn't consider vanilla SC "bad" just because it isn't as good as BW. One thing that Blizz still hasn't dissapointed me with - movies for their games still rule. On a sidenote - either i'm blind or nobody discussed items/itembuild for tuskar. Do you just maximise dmg due to multiplier on his ulti, or buy items for initiator/ganker role?
The second, IMO. Other than the one hit off his ulti, he doesn't really have the skills to carry.

Drums, can't go wrong with drums.
|
as long as you get stygian and lothars eventually for big numbers the whole point is really big numbers
|
Ice Shards>Snowball. Bottle>Urn>Treads>Drums. I don't understand why Valve would put Phase over Treads in the recommended items... Ymir has enough slows to make up for it. Proceed to punch people.
Also make sure you don't snowball people who will probably get one shot once it arrives.

Phase active making the snowball faster is my guess. And get Lothars on him.

wc3 didn't bring anything new? Are you serious? heroes with exp/items, creeps, day/night changes, upkeep system, (neutral buildings)? What other strategy games featured that before, in such a game-defining way? I'm sorry if I keep derailing the thread, but I think wc3 was and still is one the most innovative strategy games, and a lot of this still translates into dota (2). Yes, a lot of that regretably wasn't perfected until the last detail, and that's why many people (particularly on tl.net) blamed the ideas instead of the execution. I don't think we now would have dota or hon or lol without the possibilities and features of the wc3 map editor, which it only had beacuse of the features of the original game.

Phase have better synergy with punch is probably the logic behind it.
|
I actually thought WC3 was really a great game. I totally preferred SCBW, but I thought WC3 was one of the top 3-4 RTS' of all time in terms of overall gameplay / competitive play.
Except for blademaster. I actually fucking hate that hero.
Note: I never really played WC3 competitively, especially compared to BW. But I have watched it played competitively and its really interesting.

excuse me guys please keep the offtopic game hatred directed at LoL. thx.

I can't even remember if you can activate phase during snowball, can you? If you can then the synergy is obvious, seeing that the snowball is based on Ymir's speed.

It's set at 150% of Tusk's speed at the moment he turns into a snowball so just activate phase before you start rolling.

In the wc3 engine that would cancel the phase effect though. Almost certain that snowball is custom coding though so whether it would take the value prior to it canceling I can't say.
Only thing I can think of is a really badass mass teleport workaround, but that seems really out there.

Man War3 spawned a whole new genre of games (LoL/Dota etc.). War3 storyline is also the one they repeat perma in every game they make now

From what I've read it factors in the bonus ms and then cancels them

It still does in Dota 2, I think. Phase is cancelled by the activation of any spell or item ability.

Man, I really hate seeing Na'Vi lose to western teams. It's that it's more Na'Vi playing like shit, than the other team playing well, because you know Na'Vi's full potential. I blame The International spoiling me.

Scbw, d2 and war3 - I will make sure my children play them when they are old enough and tell them these are the true masterpieces in the gaming history (and maybe let them play sc2 and d3 so we can flame both games together).
Aui needs to stream more, i have this fetish of seeing people random and then buy a cour to go mid.

it strongly depends on who's casting for me. I don't like watching Tobi cast Na'Vi when they play well.

But if you compare SC1 to BW and D2 to LoD, WC3 to Frozen Throne..night and day. Design-wise I think LoD broke a lot of things that were good in D2. The biggest thing being how they trashed the usefulness of Rares in most cases.
