But honestly, Dota's probably the only game that's gonna be even close to filling that gap for a long time. I dunno starcraft was legitimately an awful game, Brood war was pretty damn good though.

i dont have any faith in blizzard to make an awesome War4 after SC2 and Diablo3. They simply aren't as good as they used to be.

But honestly, Dota's probably the only game that's gonna be even close to filling that gap for a long time. Its hard for me to have any faith in blizzard since they don't really have the people who made blizzard blizzard anymore. They have C&C people. Just because BROwder is there?
Most of blizzard still has the same people, 90% of people who were old blizzard and left it were blizzard north(majority went to arenanet, some to runic games...)
WC/SC people are still here. I think during one of the blizzcons, Metzen(i believe) mentions that 2/3 of the original SC1 team are still around.
As for how "good" they are compared to back then, it's all nostalgia. And the slight shift to more casual-gaming market which is to be understood.

Don't really know how you can back them so much after they do poor decision after poor decision and have had to backtrack so much. The nostalgia claim is also a bit silly since most of the games people talk about are games that were still being played not so long ago and in fact just before the new big titles so it can't really be nostalgia if the thing you comparing is being played at the same time.

WC3 was released 11 years ago. Just because people still play it doesn't mean it's not nostalgic of us to say how good it is compared to what blizzard has put out now.
It has always been the same in gaming, the past generations whine about how bad WC3 was and how crap D2 was etc. I have a friend who's still in the 80s as far as gaming is concerned.
And I'm not sure we can be very objective as far as "game-quality" goes. WC3/Sc1/D2 didn't bring anything new to the their respective genres, they were just the best iterations of past titles who revolutionized those gaming-genres.
If anything have faith in Blizzard's expansions, if they screw those up then fuck them. But if you compare SC1 to BW and D2 to LoD, WC3 to Frozen Throne..night and day.

Well, about how blizzard expansions used to be good... World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria

WoW doesn't count, it's a MMO
Anyone knows what's the thought behind alchemist pickup in Na'Vi vs Fnatic? It worked out quite nicely in the offensive trilane but that's probably more due to na'vi having an ench in the jungle.

War3 brought a lot what exactly would it be an iteration of? You talk about War3/D2/BW not bringing anything which I partially agree with but D3/SC2 are exactly the same then. They just iterations of BW/D2 and they are effectively worse iterations of the same thing. It's quite easy to compare. I think if they were different games sure it would have really hard to say objectively which is better but since this isn't the case it becomes far simplier
If Diablo3 was called something else and not made by blizzard I doubt anyone would have given it a second thought. Similar to SC2. Their current games just don't stand on their own at all. I hope they eventually prove me wrong since I too would love a War4 game. The old blizzard were masters of taking the good points from everyone else and putting it into one product. The new blizzard doesn't seem to do this. They aren't good at making new ideas either so they just stuck inbetween
I think this snip-it shows just how much backpedaling they are doing currently.

This is the Dota 2 general thread, right?

Nope -- you've stumbled into "Blizzard Bash & Treant Improvement Discussion", but it's easy to see how you might have been confused.

He maxed that longest aoe stun in the game first so i guess that helps for laning/killing. I missed g1 but g2 is a beautiful game from fnatic, freefarm hanni go for teamfight items and into non-stop aggression, fnatic knew exactly what they were doing.

Yea damn. Fnatic is so impressive lately. They've improved aloooooot.
Always hope for notail meepos :'(

I actually think TL, EG and dignitas are all performing very well right now, with TL performing the best this week followed by dignitas.

SC wasn't a bad game :/ I played it as much as HOMM3, it's just that BW turned out to be godlike, shouldn't consider vanilla SC "bad" just because it isn't as good as BW. One thing that Blizz still hasn't dissapointed me with - movies for their games still rule.
On a sidenote - either i'm blind or nobody discussed items/itembuild for tuskar. Do you just maximise dmg due to multiplier on his ulti, or buy items for initiator/ganker role?
