If your new to playing MOBA's and DOTA 2 is your first is it better to practice against bots or just playing other humans on ladder? Thanks!

You should feel bad for being a Bioware fan, not for not being a TES fan.

There's nothing wrong with not liking TES. You're not missing much.

Everything good that ever came from Bioware was Black Isle-related.

oh nono the last bioware games i like was Kotor2 (kotor1 is about 100miles better). I didnt have time to try ME and Dragon age feels boring to me.

oh no you didn't - I will fight to the death over Kotor2 being a much better game

read a simple tutorial about the game - namely what last hitting is, what's the goal of the game etc and just play vs people. People that choose "first time player" when they start playing are usually just as new as you are to the game, so no problem there.

Either one, prepare to get crushed if you meet smurfs though, if you are lucky enough to not then most people are probably about as clueless about things. Depending on bot level, they might be harder than majority of new players aside from lowest level(s).

If you have the patience, read or watch some basic introduction stuff.

If you have never played something similar, creating a game just to see how it actually works, how to use items, how to use the shop, the flow of the game, etc. is probally very important. After that it depends, some people probally would say it's good to play bot games until you feel comfortable enough to step into an actual game, but if you don't think that is fun and would rather play with people, you will just drop enough in the ladder to find people around your level. You just will have to handle sucking, and people telling you that, sometimes in a very obnoxious way. But you should do whatever is fun for you.

A good middle term may be public coop games against bots, but I'm not really sure how that really works in practice.

on top of what everyone else said, even if you meet a smurf and lose badly, (or get carried without knowing why) you should be able to at least learn what the heroes do in the match you are in, and hero knowledge is pretty much half of learning the basics of the game. so as long as you stay in the game if its 5v5 (or not safe to leave yet) you'll be learning something.

people will flame you, but 90% of people will offer advice if you say you are new and want to learn to play.

How would people rate morphling for current public play? Like high bracket. I've been playing him now for about 10 games and i do absolutely atrociously bad. I am so weak early game it's unreal it feels like, and any ranged hero easilly harasses me out of a lane. I'm not playing perfect by any means but i feel like if i play any other carry/semi carry i would do much better. It all comes down to me getting too little farm really. I struggle to stay in lane and usually get behind that way or i get ganked quite easilly. An early death feels extremely heavy to take.

He's usually pretty good if you are better than the enemy supports are at least in pubs. He's a character you can get easily out of control with in that case. just got to get through the rough first 3 levels. the better you are with him the easier that gets.

He's bad in VH tier. He need way too much farm and if your team can't hold 4vs5 the game is over as you do nothing midgame with just waveform. Other carries (Luna/Lancer etc...) are much more useful midgame and come online much sooner. Even traditional hardcarries like void and lancer have good midgame skills, while Morph has just Waveform and a useless nuke. He's bad in the same sense Medusa is bad, good laning, decent early game, null mid, good late, super good late-late.

His laning phase is just way too weak imo, low base damage, low range, low armor and low movement speed. Part of the reason why morph was so strong before he got nerfed was that he could go 1v1 in lane and come out on top vs most heroes, which just isn't the case anymore.

Morph is still good. He just isn't free wins anymore. You actually have to utilize his abilites now instead of facerolling your keyboard.

I thought morph was in shit tier until i saw Funnik's morph in action. I think that small buff from the latest patch was a needed adjustment.

Ok so got a few quick questions (didnt see a simple question/answer thread), what would be some safe mid heroes to learn if i wanted to play mid lane? hopefully only 2-3 that i can rotate though based on opposing picks. for example if they pick pudge, or invoker, who should i pick? i'd like to keep the list small. i do tend to enjoy heroes who have carry potential (SF for example) but i'm looking to just mostly learn the role, as ive only really played jungle/hard carry for the past month (just started in jan), i sometimes queue into the very high bracket if that matters (everyone is still horrible me included)

on another note, how big is the range on the very high bracket? i imagine im in the equivalent of the diamond league in sc2, but its hard to tell how my progression is besides "winning"

thanks in advance for any advice feel free to pm me if u have extra time to talk in game or something

The simple questions simple answers thread is in the strategy forum here

You shouldn't rely on counter picking the opposing middle though (mainly because it doesn't exist). If you want to learn a few middles then pick a popular one that has mostly good matchups like QoP.

It's pretty huge. Low VH bracket is like full of noobs like me. Upper VH is mostly decent ppl (pag 2-10), and page 1 is good people who troll and play in stacks 90% of the time. In term of player numbers it's around 2% (so first 50 pages or so).
