Btw i only play on US East, and it doesnt stop brazillians from speaking spanish all fucking game long, pinging everyone on the map when they die, like there is something you can do about thier bad play.
But i can kinda understand playing with brazillians, its not THAT far away. what i dont understand is playing with russians WHY THE FUCK DO I PLAY WITH RUSSIANS ON US EAST. The worst part is, they spam chat in russian...WHEN HALF THE TIME THEY ARE THE ONLY RUSSIANS. noone knows what your saying.
PS if youre playing on a server that gives you shit ping dont complain about lag.

I'm french, usually play with 2 other french friends and we never talk in french in teamchat. If we want to talk in french we use steam chat. Like it or not english is the most unversal language in europe.

The Russian serve is located in RUSSIA. You know, a distance away from some of those europian countries with russia as their official language. Just becuase you speak it, doesn't mean you live close to it. People are going to pick whatever server has the best ping. The europian server is host to a lot of different languages who get their best ping there. If you can't deal with it, take the hit on ping and play on the US servers where there are a lot less of them. The Russian server is in the middle of Stockholm. To be more precise Russians most likely have the same ping to the Russian server as to the EU East/West Server. PS: The actual communication that's needed for pub games isn't much more than "ss", "go", "b". The most advanced stuff you need is around the lines of "need wards", "coming top" and, at the highest level of professional pubplay only: "smoke here". If you aren't able to communicate/understand that kind of stuff in foreign languages you're kind of screwed. PPS: Speaking of which, can someone translate the above into (non-cyrillic) russian for me? Some kind of "me no rus" on top of that and I shall fieldtest my communication skills on foreign territory!
If you look at a map you will see that Russia is big. Also the "russians" encounter maybe not even russians but russian speaking people from Estonia, Ukraine, Romania, Belarus, and other states that teach Russian.
So ping might be better to EU west / east. Here a Russian says he has better ping to the EU servers.
Frankly the xenophobia shown by some people here and on reddit is just disgusting. We live in a globalised world if you can't deal with people speaking a different language then go find a german only / french only / english only community and queue with them. I'm glad that Valve has no server limitation and I can play with people from all over the world. If someone is going to be an idiot he is an idiot and not Russian / American or French. I wish this kind of talk would be moderated on TL. That's what I come here for, not to listen to some backward racist talk.

I meet a lot more russians that fall into this category, but i'm not going to treat them any different, if i were to act as if they should GTFO because they don't speak english it'd be some serious double standards to not have the same reaction to every single person you meet that fits into that description. I've also met incredibly nice russians who gladly spoke english, whom i am happy to have played with, just like i've met people who weren't russian that refused to communicate and bitched all game in a language that wasn't english.

I'm danish and i usually play with other danes and we only speak english in teamchat, what's your point?
I never debated if english is the most universal language in europe or not, i said that there are people from every single country in europe from spain to finland who do not speak english and are unable to communicate inside of a game without it destroying their gameplay, saying that people who speak russian shouldn't play on the european server just because they are unable or not willing to speak english is just xenophobic.

Nobody is disagreeing with this, but saying that it only applies to russians and constantly blaming russians only IS xenophobic. If you dislike people who refuse to or are unable to communicate, that's fine, but then it should apply to individuals and be done without branding an entire group of people as "idiots that wont communicate".
Because putting a label on a group of people like that is xenophobia.

Having some weird problems with my Dota2 sound the last couple of days. General sound is just fine, but buyback and respawn sounds are riduclously loud. Could someone help me out on this one by any chance?
On another completely unrelated note: I'm teaching some of my buddies, who are completely new to the DotA-genre, how to play the game for the past few weeks and I have to say it's tons of fun teaching people!

I agree while it is really rewarding it can be very stressful at times. One of my friends played as courier for 3 minutes till he understood how to switch back to his hero.

On the note of communication in pubs, I don't get why people say they can't communicate without being able to speak the same language. It's really easy to ping and draw on the map to get across what you want to do for the most part. Want to kill/defend a tower? Ping it. Want to push up mid lane? Ping the end of it and draw a big arrow going up the lane. It's pretty universal, and if your team mates don't follow, it's probably just because they don't want to listen to you more than something to do with not understanding.
Same thing for items, if you want wards on the map, ping and say "ward", and if they don't understand or don't do it, either live without wards, or buy them yourself.
The only reason you'd need to be able to talk extensively in chat is to coordinate more advanced tactics, and it shouldn't matter that much, because in my experience, people either don't listen to that person, or just don't care what they say. If you need to communicate extensively through chat the entire way through the game, you're probably one of those (incredibly) annoying people who tries to micro-manage the entire team. If you want to be team captain, get together four friends who will listen to you. Don't expect to be able to do it with 4 randoms in a pub.
