V1lat just posted this on his twitter. Game over for Dota.
A LoL-alike on the iPhone and Android? That's all I got since I don't understand Russian. If so, I'm not impressed. I have no desire to play Dota on a touchscreen, and can't see such a thing becoming competitive with LoL/HoN/Dota2 already on the scene.

It's funny because in a interview he said that the dota community is bad and that he won't be a part of it...
So he decides to be in SC community? which month by month is getting more ridiculous and ugly, except few exceptions. Of course Dota's general community is even worse (in-game especially), but still.
Meh, don't really think the dota 2 community is bad at all. Sure you get assholes once in a while ingame (what can you do? It's internet afterall), but I have gotten so much more shit ingame in sc2 (Terran sup) than in dota 2. It's also nothing compared to how bad HoN and LoL can be. I also think r/dota2 and TL dota have much higher standard than the sc2 subreddit and forum. I guess you could argue that dota 2 is just beta but it's not like the game and community is lacking players. dota 2 + steam will make it so the ingame level will never be as bad as in HoN and wc3 DotA either, which is good of course.
I disagree with this respectfully. In SC2 (at a mid-high masters level), I would get gl / gg and semi-friendly discussion in two out of every five games, the other three being silence -- only the occasional BM. I played like 6k games over two years at that level (just switched to Dota 2 a couple weeks ago).
Dota 2 is the first community I've ever been a part of (UT, UT2k4, Myth 1/2, WC3, SC2) that has repulsed me. Immaturity in SPADES, racism, homophobia and just a genearl mean-spiritedness. People are just absolute dicks, and that wasn't the case in SC2 (for me). I found 1v1 ladder players to be, in general, respecful.
Dota 2 makes me hate humanity a little bit. I know "this is the internet" but not everyone on the internet is like that. It's a good thing the game is so goddamned fun or else I would be upset with myself for sticking around.
I assume you are talking about the "in game" community, as opposed to the "on forums/reddit" community. Dota, as a team game, requires some social skills and/or active management of your image on the team to get along. To be honest, the easiest way to do this is to leave some kind of positive impression BEFORE the game starts/creeps spawn. First impressions, on the internet as much as elsewhere, are very important. Your teammates are there to have fun (just like you), and hopefully win as well. They don't start the game looking to pick fights with their team (usually), but they may be frustrated from a previous game. Say hi (preferably over a decent-sounding microphone), buy wards/courier and discuss laning options or remaining picks (IN A SUPPORTIVE MANNER). Do anything in your power to prevent your allies first impression of you being "he missed 2 lasthits in a row, what a baddie", or something similar ("he is so passive, we could have had first blood, what a baddie", etc). If you can pull that off, even feeding doesn't usually turn your team against you.
Doing stuff like this, I've noticed my in-game experiences with "the community" are much, much better than most peoples. On Reddit/TL, I much much prefer the Dota communities.
Dota 2 is the first community I've ever been a part of (UT, UT2k4, Myth 1/2, WC3, SC2)
Although I can't speak for myth 1, UT, UT2k4 are both fastpaced shooters, you have no time to whine there. WC3 and SC2 are both single player games.
That is not to say the Dota community isn't bad but it is perhaps also game type related. Regardless of all this I'd like to think that atleast on Teamliquid we have a good Dota community.

You have a point, but just as well Counter-Strike communities were/are bad when it comes to team shooters.
I'm glad Dota TL has been this good so far. But i'm afraid that will change, just like it changed in Starcraft.

ut is much more fast paced than cs tho. But yeah there are 10people in a game of dota, even when you take your experience of sc2 (1/5 are assholes) that gives you 2/10 assholes which is enough to ruin a game.

Never happend to me. What is a bad hero?
I assume in this context, a 'bad' hero is a hero that doesn't fit into your team or is way out of place. Like picking more carry heroes when you definitely need a support or picking a hero that just doesn't fit the team at all.
Dota 2 is the first community I've ever been a part of (UT, UT2k4, Myth 1/2, WC3, SC2)

Conveniently, Dota 2 is a good modernization of a great old game (Dota 1), whereas SC2 is a tragic whoring out of a great old game (Brood War). League of legends is more like SC2 in terms of its relationship to its forerunner (made by different designers, completely untrue to the original design philosophies, built to extract money from), but thankfully it doesn't have the Dota name attached to it.
So I have hope. And yes, CS communities are a good example. Once the game is team based, common manners and social skills in a community seem to disappear instantly. Not that that isn't common across the internet, I guess.
When a game has long respawn times, there will be more interaction. And if there is a lot of interaction, shit's gonna be bad, always. CS players only flame when dead or really mad for example. Dota players get reasons to be mad when looking around during respawns(when you don't die early game you often are very surprised abut other players' progress)

Counterstrike , like Dota is both a team game and a game with long respawn times, thus leads to whining. I probably worded it wrong when I meant gametyp, I didnt mean Dota compared to Shooters but more pacing and team versus individual.

Yep. Or when they pick a carry and want a SPECIFIC support to babysit them.

Yes. There is absolutely no reason not to, the mana cost is not a problem, and I can't see any other reasons, you are maxing them for lane control and push power anyway
On November 29 2012 04:46 ToguRo wrote: dumb question ... are you supposed to use flaming arrows to last hit with clinkz ? the attack delay is making it hard for me to get the last hits
Yes. The terrible terrible attack animation balances the fact that he outhits basically every other hero at level 1 with those arrows (barring spirit breaker, some melee heroes with quelling blades, etc). The mana cost is negligible if you only use it to last hit, but if you use it to harass + last hit it can start to drain your mana pretty fast. Ring of aquila is pretty decent for getting the mana back plus lasthitting without the arrows when necessary.
Honestly, dota2 has better learning sources for players than day9. A person like day9 would talk about overall team strategy, but there's plenty of streamers who commentate from their individual perspective which is a much better way to learn. Although I'll still say the absolute best way to learn is just through experience.
On November 29 2012 04:46 ToguRo wrote: dumb question ... are you supposed to use flaming arrows to last hit with clinkz ? the attack delay is making it hard for me to get the last hits
You don't need to use flaming arrows to last hit (assuming you can actually do it). Better off orbwalking the enemies and trying to push them out of the lane with your mana. That said, Clinkz base damage is terrible so last hitting without arrows can be challenging. It's better to get the last hit with flaming arrows than try to last hit without them and miss them all.
