IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

blinking into a mass of enemy heroes&creeps and one-two punching them with Echoslam->Fissure = oh goddddddddd

ES has always been my favorite hero (now tied with Rubick - Puck in a close second), especially because he needs so little, but still is able to do so much. Throughout the whole game he can just force so, so much movement - it's really incredible.

Also, my favorite thing ever, when you early game make fissure block where where you separate one enemy on the lane, but leave a tiny tiny gap in the fissure. Basically, if you can get it so small that they can't fit through, but just big enough for the creeps to still see it as a viable path, you've got yourself a sure-kill (and your laning partner hopefully helps you!).

Damn, dat hero ...

yeah, Fissure is an incredible skill - damage, stun and very hard to use because of high mana cost

which brings me to a question - why isn't Earthshaker used in pro matches? Inconsistent? Jakiro's better?

Ice Path is a lot easier to cast than Fissure, and you can't possibly screw up your own team's positioning with Ice Path. I didn't play much DotA 1, so I can't confirm, but I've also heard that many players are turned off of him in DotA 2 because he "doesn't feel right." I think it might be his attack/cast animation or turn speed or something.

I see him used here and there. Though I'm no expert on the current pro situation, my guess is because there are better ganking heroes with higher mobility. I see him in trilanes occasionally.

EDIT: Also, his super long cast animation makes it easy to interrupt him since he often wont have $ for bkb.

Dunno. I think his downside is he has only one -yet potentially devastating- high cooldown spell he can reliably use until he gets blink.
Jakiro better in the way that his spells have lower cooldown, he actually has 2 ranged spells and he can not accidentially block your own team. On top of that, he starts with more hp, has better statgain and is a ranged hero.
Tide can only stun with ult, but he as a good chance to get it off (and actually hit some enemies) without dagger. And many times, gush can to the job just as well as fissure with 4 sec slow ( and armore reduce) vs 1,75 stun (if you did not get the block correctly).

It's because angle detection is different from dota 1, ES is a much more common pickup in 1 than 2 because blocks are just different (and imo harder to pull off by far in dota 2)

Or just hotkey it.

Did servers just crash for anyone else? Got booted out of my game and now it just says I'm offline.

Just got home and I'm also getting "No Connection" on my Steam. Down for maintenance maybe?

The stop button is used mostly for animation canceling, which is used for juking last hits or just getting a quicker timing down for last hits as half the animation is quicker than the whole animation.

Ah yes this too. I forgot about this.

This.

Anyone attributing ES being used to things other than the engine differences aren't taking note of how he was more or less first pick/ban phase material throughout 6.72-6.74 in DotA 1. Yes he has his drawbacks, but none of those kept the hero from being one of the most valuable supports in the game, and he didn't get directly nerfed. It's the engine differences that affect how certain Fissure blocks work that make him less strong than in DotA 1.

Can all the mechanics and strategy guides from DotA WC3 be applied to DotA2 1 to 1? As in they are completely the same game, just different graphics? Are there any engine differences that i can just take into account when looking at old DotA1 guides, and just apply them to those old guides?

Awesome, so the mechanical and spell/item interaction quirks are very minor (1%). Sounds fucking awesome to me, cause I loved DotA1. Just dled DotA2, gonna look forward to trying all the heroes I had mastered.

I heard some talk of some different delay/timing for last hitting, is this true? Will I have to learn the timing over?

A little. For example, Lina, CM, Zeus are now easier to last hit with. Still bad animations, but better than their Dota 1 counterparts.
